To all "whom it may contain;
lie it known that l iliLl'lKANlEltlll iriiciLmNo, J12, (I. lit, oil? llioad .31; Mouse, llew liroad Street London, it. C. 2, England, llrazilian subject, have invented ccr' till new and usezl ul llllPIUV(" in and Connected with apparatus for oer l i atcr to lloilere llnder ressurc o'tf which the :ltollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to iinproveinents in. and connected with. apparatus feeding water to boilers under pressure, oi the hind wherein the feed inlet valve actuated or controlled by the movement of a hollow vessel which is mounted. on a ccunterweighted lever and in coniununication with the interior ot the boiler through. a chan'lber or connection i'i'iounted upon the boiler fll'llllt.
According to my inwantion the apparatus consists in a hollow vessel :iuounted on a counterweightel lever and connected to the boiler by a tubular pivotal. connection which at one end is connected with an opening to the boiler at the normal avel of the water in the boiler and which may actuate the feed inlet directly or through apparatus which on being controlled by the movement oi? the aforesaid lever, is capable of delivering water to the boiler and. thus restoring the normal. level, all as hereinafter described with reference to the drawings.
In order that my invention may be properly understood and readily carried. into ef- :l'cct l have hereuntoappended a sleet ct drawings, of which Figure l. is an elevation of: the first part of my invention.
Figure 2 is a cross section. of the steam tight sleeve.
:l igurc 3 a general arrangenientillustrating}; my invention.
The apparatus which ll make use of to carry out my improvements consists of a hollow spindle A. or tubular pivotal connection (l igure to which is titted a steam tight sleeve B. This sleeve is all one castinEr with the counterweight arni C and pipe B. The latter pipe ill is connected to a hollow receptacle ll at its free extremity. pipe ll serves to facilitate the dischargi-i oil water from the receptacle l) and its action will be described further on. lil is a tap which allows all air to be expc-rlled from the system. when the ammratus is first started.
Vl hen the level of the water in the boiler Serial l lo. 571,025. r
is below the normal level line one is therefore below the opening of the hollow spire die it, the receptacle. l) is empty, and by the action ottrthe weight C, the receptacle D is ed, and the rod V is lifted and actuates a valve adn'iittiug latter to the boiler. he won as the water covers the port it. of the pivot spindle it. it intercepts the direct con.- tact ."lron' the steam in the boiler the steam in the receptacle D, the steam in the latter condenses and the water then passes in tothe receptacle D. When the receptacle D is full the lever system is thrown out of. balance and the receptacle D moves downwards in a clockwise direction as will be understood. This movement is transmitted to the rod V which actuatcs a value X and closes the admission of water to the boiler. The length of rod or arm V is ree'ulated so as to keep the receptacle D when full in its horizontal pos' ion and act as a stop. As soon. as the level in the boiler 0 begins to tall and the port A. of spindle A is on covereththe water in the receptacle D begins to how back by gravity into the steam generator and the system again resumes its original position, namely upwardly inclined. it is forced to do so because the counter we ht C is adjusted so as to effect this.
.igure 2 shows in detail the pivot spindle A, sleeve l3, and pipe B. [in opening or recess la l cut in. the side of this pipe B, as shown in such. a position as to enable the receptacle l) to be in direct connnunication with the boiler O at any position of the lever system. The pipe U forms a duct which serves to carry steam to the receptacle l) in connection with the clearance slot or open-- ing lift and thus facilitates the outward flow iroin. l).
The secondary part oi. the invention is in tended to wort. in conjunction with the de vice described. above and is based upon the principle of communicating tanks.
A pipe l (ll igure 3) connects the upper part of the boiler U through valve X controlled. by the rod V (ll 1) with the vessel ll which however, must be higher than tl level. ot the water in the boiler U.
fllhe vessel ll is connected with the water v p1 ,4: ll, fitted with a check valve l H '15 connected with the bottom lit-ted with achcclr filled With water in the usual way. Valve X is in the closed position and the boiler O is put under pressure. As soon as feeding is needed the automatic apparatus shown in Figure 1 will move upwards for reasons already explained and thus opens valve K through the means of the control rod V Steam from the boiler O enters vessel H through pipe W and puts it under pressure. ater new flows from the vessel H through the pipe J until the Water level in the boiler O is restored. Atthis moment water enters the receptacle D and moves the lever system downwards, thus causing the valve X to be closed and shutting oft steam to container H. The steam in the container H condenses and draws Water through check valve K and fills same. ater feeding to boiler thus auto matieally steps.
This cycle oi operation repeats itself auto matieally Whenever the Water level in the boiler O lowers below that of the port A in the controlling apparatus.
Claim:
In combination, a steam boiler, a Water feed vessel arranged at a higher point than the normal water level in the boiler, a teed Water pipe connected to said vessel and having a check valve, a water pipe leading from said vessel to the boiler and also having a cheek v lve a steam pipe etmneetin; the vesset and the boile, a valve in said steam pipe; a lever having a duet, a pivotal eonneetion between the lever and the boiler and including: a duct in commonieation with the duet of said lever, and open at all times for the passage o'l stean'i or water to a coin neetion between the lever and said steam valve, to cause the latter to be operated by the lever, and a receptacle and a counterweight carried by the lever. the said duet of the lever leading to said rerept'aele.
