Be it known that I, Axnnnw JUHASZ, a citizen of Hungary, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented. certain new and useful Imrovements in Barber-Chair Registers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates generally to barbers chairs, having more particular reference to a counting device whereby the number of customers occupying the chair during a day, or other selected period of time, may be registered.

The invention has for a general object to provide a simple form of mechanism as above set forth, and further, to provide a registering device which will act automatically to give a separate registration of shaves and hair cuts.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

In Fig. 1 of the drawings the reference numeral 10 indicates the usual supporting pedestal of the barbers chair which is provided with the usual tilting means indicated at 10. The seat of the chair comprises a base consisting of a shallow box-like member 11, and an upholstered top member 12. The top member 12 is pivoted as at 13 at its front edge to the base 11 and is adapted to swing vertically in the latter. The chair is provided with a hollow back 15 in which is slidably held by guides 16 a rod 17 connected at its lower end by a link 18 with a rigid projection 19 from the hinged seat top 12.

Upon the upper end of rod 17 a spring pawl 22 is carried and engages a ratchet wheel 23 suitably journaled in the back 15 and having a gear pinion 24 fixed co-axially thereto. This pinion 24 meshes with a gear 25 also suitably journaled in the back 15 above said pinion, this gear 25 having fixed to the rear face thereof a dial disk dial disk 26 registers with a suitable opening in the rear wall of the back 15 which is shown as surrounded by a flange 28 on which is hinged a glass paned door 29 pro vided with any suitable key or combination lock. The dial disk 26 has a series of numbered marks 27 spaced around the edge thereof on its rear face and which are adapted to be brought into successive registry with an indicating finger fixed in the back 15. The amount of swinging movement of the seat top 12 is limited, by a pair of vertically spaced stoos 30 and 31, to that necessary to advance the disk 26 one number, an expansion spring 32 returning the seat top to its upper position after being vacated by the customer.

The shave registering mechanism operates in conjunction with the head rest which here comprises a box 35 fixed on the usual bar 36 which is secured in the back by a screw'37. The front wall of this box is in the form of a plate 38 hinged at its upper side as at 39 and covered with suitable upholstery 40. This plate 38 is of a size to swing into the'box 35 and is formed with an edge flange 41 engaging in the box.

Mounted on the plate 38 near the lower edge thereof. is a spring pawl 42 engaging a ratchet wheel 43 to which is co-axially fixed a bevel. pinion 44 meshing with a bevel gear 45 carried by a bracket 46 and having a dial disk 47 fixed thereto. This disk has numbered marks 48 adapted to be successively brought into registry with a pointer 49 Movement of plate 38 is limited by a pin 50 fixed in the box 35 and engaging in a slot 51 in the flange 41. a coiled expansion spring 52 returning the plate to normal position. The rear wall of the box 35 is provided with a flanged opening closed by a door 53 similar to the door 29. Retrograde movement of the respective dial disks 26 and 47 is prevented by means of spring pressed pawls 54 and 55 engaging the ratchet wheels 23 and 43.

In order to prevent the disk 26 being actuated in the event that a customer desires a shave only I attach to the rod 17 an upwardly extending link which is connected at its upper end to one arm of a small bell 26. The other arm of thls lever extends adjacent the bar 36 and is engaged by the latter in a manner to prevent the link 60, and in consequence the rod 17 and seat 12, being; depressed as long as the head rest remains in position. 7

The proprietor, after examining the dials, can reset the same by advancing them to zero position, knobs 63 and 64 being provided on the respective dials for this purpose. It Will be understood of course that the dials will have a sufficient number of marks to register the maximum accommodation of each chair in the selected period.

Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as tolloWs:

1. In a barbers chair, a movable seat member, anumber indicating dial operative connections between said seat member and dial, and a removable head rest adapted by insertion in place and removal respectively to lock said seat against movement and release the same.

2. In a barbers chair, a movable seat member, a number indicating dial, operative connections between said seat member and dial, a remo able head rest, and means actuated by said head rest for locking said seat against movement.
