Application '1edfrovember 19, lEllfv Serial No. 516,502;
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that llicoaizno citizen of the United residing at Baltimore',
ers for hair clippers andhas for ect to provide a conreniently operated and sun-i ply constructed portable support, 'whereby the hair clipper and motor for driving the same can be movedv from one chair to another in the barber sliep. f
Other and 'further objeotsand advantages o? my device will be in part'desi-,rbed in part appa-rent as the specicationis proceeded with. y
In the accompanying drawing forming` part oi' this speciiication.
Figure l is a side elevation of my nvention, the current Yfeed wire and the trolley track being broken away;
Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 2--2 of Figure l; y
Figure 3 is a section on the line ot Figure l;
Figure l is an enlarged detail view oiithe catch for holding the brake in inoperative position; i i
Figure 5 is a sectionl on the line 5-5 orn Figure lg and Figure 6 is a section taken 'on the line 6-6 of Figure l. i
Referring more specilically tothe drawings wherein like references ret'er to corresponding parts throughout the several views, l denotes a tlexible track, preferably inthe lorm. of a heavy wire, suspended or sup ported beneath the Ceiling of a barber shop by any suitable means (not shown). This track l which is preferably arranged `directly above the usual row of chairs (not shown) slidably supports what may be generally termed the clipper holder or support 2. The clipper holder comprises a tubular upright member 3 having a hollow boss l Fixed thereto. Mounted in the boss 4 and extending in opposite directions therefrom are a pair of hollow arms 5 each of which supports an electric lamp socket 6 adjacent their outer extremities, and about midway their ends have affixed thereto trolley wheels 7, adapted to run on the track l.
A second pair of lhollow arms 8, similar to but much shorter than the arms 5 are Bi Canam a an. d y
'low arms 5 connected at their inner vends topa` collar; 9
slidably mounted onthe uprightmember 5 i l and at their outer ends carry trolley Vwheels l0, which engagethe track from below.
The outer ends of] the arms 8 are formed withy apertured enlargements. 50 which y loosely receive the lower ends 'of the shank portions l'oi the handles 111 and'arerei siliently supported by roilv springs' 52 bear'- ing at one end againstithe'handles -11 and at `their other lend`'agair'ist'fsaid 'enlargements The upper ends ofthe shank portions 5l vare hxed in any suitable manner, tothe barsfw. i
By exerting a downward pressure onliarsf the 'latter'and consequently the wheels ld will be'lowered against the tensionl ot springs 52` and the operator cany then take'the devic'e oil' the'track if desired, for repair-spor otherv purposes.
Fixedly mounted on the lower end ofthe tubular member 3 is` a' bracket l2 formed with bifurcated arms'l adapted to receive and support the hair clipper514f`,'whe`n the latter is -not in use. The motor 15' for driving the clipper isVsupport'ed by an pair of snap fasteners 16, attached to thel lower ends of chains /17 depending from the bracket 12, thewmotor bein-g provided with eyes t8 for this purpose. 'y The' liexible eed'lwires l19 for supplying the lamps and the motor 15 with current s enter the tubular member 3 through the. connection 20, those wires con-ducting current tothelampsjpassin-ginto the holand those leading to the meter, passing down through and out of the lower end oi:V the tubular member' 3, where they Means is provided or locking the c lip-` per holder or support 2 yat any. desired point or" travel along the track 'l comprising a brake member or plate 23, of any desired ornamental congurationjand preferably cut away centrally to' lighten the same. This member 23, has a depending reduced portion 24 which is connected to a rod 25, in turn passing through an apertured arm 26 secured to the tubular up# right 3. `A coil spring 27, bearing at its upper end againstthe reduced portion 24 of the plate or brake member 23, and atits lower end against the apertured arm 26, normally tendsv to force the grooved shoulv der 28.01? the/'member 23 against the flexisagement with the Atrack.,
ble track fl, this causes the track or wire to bend or buckle upwardly between the wheels .7, thereby efi'ectually locking the wheels against movement-along thetrack.`
When the operator desires togmove `the clipper holder or supportalong thev track l, he pulls the rod 25 downwardly against the tension of coil spring 27, by means oit the knob 55, on.l theflower end of a slotted extension 29, securedto the rod- 25 as fat 30. During; this vmovement the' lower end of the slotted extension 29 rides over the beveled projection 3l' on the spring` catch 32, forcing 4the same inwardly until the end oi: `the extension passes the projection, whereupon the latter springs outwardly by virtue ot its resiliency into the slot 6() of the extension 29, thus holding` the shoulder 28 of plate or brake member 23 out ot enholder or support l is then free to be slid along 'the track by means or the handles ll.
To release the catch 32 and thus cause the plate lor brake member 28 to moveto oper.-
ative position under the action of coil spring 27, .it is merely necessary to press the knob or button on the end of the spring catch inwardly towards the tubular upright member 3. y
The vbrake .member 23 is maintained in spaced relation to the tubular upright inember 3 and in position tol engage the track i, by means of a block 85 secured tothe member 3 by any ysuitable means (not shown). A headedguide pin-36 secured tothe block 35 and projecting through slot 83 in the depend; ing reduced portion 24: of the brake member or plate 23 also -serves to guide and maintain the brake member in proper vertical alinement or position. y
The spring catch 32 is secured tothe lower reduced end- 56 of a spacing block 57 -as at 58, the vspacingblock inturn being secured to.
The clipper the tubular member f5 as by means of headed screw. 59 extending outwardly through the.
slot 60 in extension 29. 'lfhe block 57 andthe headed screw 59 serve the same purpose. as the blockv vand headed pin 36,.
The motor 1 5 is provided with flexible shaft 38 for` actuating the clipper '14, said L clippers being` shown and described in my ed to support and rmaintain said uprighton said track, means on said upright for cari m9; a hair clipper andA means tor-locking' said wheels to the track. i
2. support for hai-r clippers comprisin,e` e a track, an upright iineinber, a pair oi' op-v positely extending arms fixed to the lippe-ig lend ot said upright, a second pair of op positely ez/itending` arms slidably mounted on said upright-beneath said iirst mentioned arms, wheels carried by bothpairs of arms adapted to movably support and maintain said upright on saidk track, means for re.- siliently Jforcingv said slidably mounted arms toward said iixed arm's whereby the wheels carried by the slidably mounted armsy will engage the track from below, and means for locking said wheels to said track.
