@n iyhe drawings: l
Figrre is a tog View oif the boi; showing oi'naniei'i; therein.
Figure side View of vthe boi: sind its supper f liliejiii-e bor seeibion rhronggh Jche a deteii 'vien' on an enlargei' the telescopio joint in the snp- Lire i is :i rear View oil rhobox and its extends a oonsiderable distance over the Wells ofthe hof; in Order to insure ra Weatherproof ioint betivee- *olie two. The box has a bead l agains which the lower edge of: rhe Cover abrite., and the @over has a bead 5 for Jfhe sake or' r lzing its edge more rigid.
rillie doper par:v oi' -the Cover hes an inward turned flange against. which the-cover glass i is positioned'. rllhis glass is held iny posi'ion by an interior flange 8 which projeoiis inwardly; kThis ian'e forms part of e ring, the inain portion 9 of which is at right angles to the rlange. rlhe ring rnajyY be secured to the inside or the'wall of die @over in any oesired manner; rllhe ring` may go oornpleely around 1the Cover, or it may' be ,mede in several portions, if desired. lt
may be secured to the cover by rivets, bolts,-
spot-Welding, ceii'ienting, or in any other desired manner.
Preferably the region beween the Yilanges 6 and' 8 has puity or oiher oenientitions inaterial therein so insure hat the joini4 between the niets-il and they glass is Weathertight;
@n the side of the oever opgosie the hinges is secured a liiisp 23, n'iade with a hinge 2:3 and with an offset part 26., The pari 2G eenied "so the cover by Welding?. s-ifiideringi, riv gf; or in any other desired wifey. The hi Y enables the hasp` to be passed over bhe staple 24.
fi fooi@ l0 is secured Yto the bottom or the box by spuit-Welding, seldering, riveting or in an;T other desired manner. The end il oi? `his foot is bent into aseini-oirole4 so thai; as the box is tipped from a vertical to an inoiined positionV it can roll along this curved oor. ln the illustration showi'i there is bui'. one loot.,` because the box is oiroular. fir ythe box be of a form that has an exfuended lower edge when Jche box is set up, iwo or more feet analogous to the iee` l0 may be used. rllhe rounded por Jions of these feet will then necessarily be ell in one line. v
Secured to the bottoni oi the box, on the other side of its center 'from the Jroot 10,'aie a pair or hinges 12. Eaeh hinge has one leal attached to the bottom or the box by solderinej, spot Welding, rivering, or in any other desired manner. The
J:'iher leai' oi? ea'eh hinge i" oontalnued into a bar i3 to forni one part oi' the brace for Preferably this bar is twisted so that it continues as a longer bar 14 in a plane at right angles to the part 13 which constitutes a leaf of the hinge. The longer part of this bar is provided with a slot 15 and overlaps the slotted end 16 of a ll-shaped bar whose cross-piece is shown at 17. The
A U-shaped guide piece 19 straddles the bar 14 and the bar 16 and affords guide for keeping the bars 111- and 16' in line during their motion along one another. Through the cross connection of the tlshaped guide 19 goes a screw 2O whichtraverses tie slots 15 and,18 and ends in a head 21 that bears against the inner side of the bar 16. A washer 22 is supplied. between the outer end of the screw 2O and the bar 14;. The screw is provided with the usual wing head to enable it to be tightened manually. By loosening` the screws 20, the bars 14 and 16 can be slid over one another and. so the box tilted to any desired angle with the horizontal. lDuring such tilting movement the foot 11 will have rolling contact with the ground.
When the desired position is reached, screws 2O are tightened and clasp the bars 14: and 16, compressing them between the guide 19 and the head 21. This secures the box in the selected position.
`Within the box is placed a wreath of real or artificial flowersj or any other erna* ment which it is desired to display upon the grave. The cover of the box is then shut, the hasp 23 passed over the staple 24, and if desired a padlock inserted through the projecting part of the staple 24 to prevent unauthorized persons from opening the box. The brace 14-16 is then adjusted to give the box the desired angle of inclination and the box placedon the grave. lf it is desired to have the box nearly Ahorizontal, the foot 11 is forced into the ground to prevent it from lifting its edge of the box too hio'h to look well.
l am aware that numerous details ot lconstruction kmay be variedA through a wide range without departing from. thev principles of this invention, and l therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
l claim as my invention: Y
ln a device of the class describech a circular box having a transparent cover, a foot secured to the bottom of the box near one edge and having a round ground con-- tacting portion projecting away from said bottoni, a brace comprising a U-shaped member having its bottom portion at least as long as the radius of the box, a pair of brace members hingedly secured to the bottom'of the box at equal distances upon opposite vsides of the foot and upon the other side of the center of the box from said foot, the distance'between the two hinge members being approximately 'equal to the length of the bottom portion of said U-shaped member, and telescopic joints ycon necting said hinged members with upstan-ding portions of said U-shaped member whereby rotation of the box about its axis is prevented by contact of the bottom of the U-sliaped member withthe ground but rotary adjustment of the box about the foot a pivot is obtained by motion of the hinged members about their hinges as pivots and the box is securely braced in the selected position by adjustment of the said telescopic joints.
ln testimony whereof l have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
STANLEY GASPARAITS.
