To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, HAROLD V. XVI-man LEY, a subject of the King of England, FBSld'? ing at Edenkillie, Strassburg, in the Prov: ince of Saskatchewan, Dominion of Cane ada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in- Ladder Attachments; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable Othersskilled in the art towhieh it appertains to make-and use the same.
This invention is an improvement in ladders and has particular reference to an attachment therefor.
In carrying out the invention it is pro; posed to provide the ladder with a receptacle support upon which buckets of paint and the like may be placed within easy reach of a person on the ladder. T
An object of the invention is to provide an improved support which may be adjusted to any height on either side of the ladder and which includes a platform also adjustable so that the same may be made to assume a horizontal position regardless of the angle of the ladder when standing against the wall of a building or other structure.
Another object is the provision of a support which may be folded to a position along the adjacent side of the ladder when not in use.
A further object is to provide a detachment of this character which is simple in construction, easy to manufacture and effective in carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of a ladder showing the support attached thereto and in operative position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the support in its inoperative or folded position.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the ladder showing the support in operative position.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional View through the support.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the lower portion of the support.

The lower end of a diagonal brace arm generally indicated by the numeral 25 is pivotally mounted between the cars 24 as indicated at 26 and the pivot extends at right angles to the pivot pin 18. The diagonal brace arm is adjustable in length and for this purpose consists of a sleeve member 27 into which is extended the lower end of a rod 28 and carried by the upper end of the sleeve member 27 is a .set screw 29 which engages the rod 28 to maintain the same in adjusted positions. The upper end of the rod 28 has pivoted thereto at 30 the platform 31 the inner edge of which is detachably connected to the upper end of the arm or upright 15 by means of a catch 32. The upper end of the sleeve 27 is connected to the arm 15 by means of a sectional brace 33, the sections of which are pivoted at 3a to form a break joint.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description thatthe ladder 10 maybe placed at an angle against'the \vall'of a building or any other structure and by swinging the arm about'its pivot 18 to a vertical position and then tightening the wing nut 22 the platform .31 will be adjusted to a horizontal position so that a, bucket or ,other receptacle maybe securely placed thereon. 'lVhen de-' siring to' fold the attachment, the inner edge of the platform 31 is 'first detached' I from-the upper end of the arm 15 by releasing the catch 32, and the sectional brace 33 V is folded after which the diagonal arm'25 may be swung to a positionalongside of the 1 arm 15 as shown in Fig.3.
