^ Be it yknown that we, 'LEsTERiMARu-is Wmrn'and JARTHURFISH, citizens of the UnitedA States, and residents ofPerth. Am' boy, in the county of Middlesex and Stateing same, .such.as.are used to carry saidv solution -in considerable uantity, for example, in quantities up to fty gallons. The object of our invention is to provide a packfv age which shall-possess allthe advantages inherent` in the 4various types of such pack-l ages now known and avoidcerta'm'd1sad' vantages inherent' in them. 
 Formaldehyde is a Acommodity .which is widely used as a rawmaterialin the manufacture of. chemicals and other products. 
It also finds Wide application for medicinaland pharmaceutical purposes.A Vlhile itfis .not corrosive to metals in the sense inwhich that term is'applied to common acids, yet 
it does reactchemical1y-withiron, copper, wood and the other common materials from lwhich containers arefmade with the re-` sult that -the formaldehyde becomes contaminated with the products of .such reactionl Under' these clrcumstances, the 'I problem I i of procuring satisfactory packages has been difiicult. v 
- Hitherto, the containers most commonly. 
used have been barrels of selected white oak ofthe best quality sawed from the heart wood of the tree. Before use, these barrels are coated on the inside with molten paraffin. Barrels of this type, though widely used are subjectv to well known disadvantages, viz., they are expensive, and even when conv structed. wlith greatest care, they' ermit loss ofthe contents by absorption an leakage. This loss is the occasion of serious annoyance andfmay become prohibitive inv case of long distance lshipments unless the barrels are from time to time recoopered while' in transit. Moreover, the porous nature ofl even the best quality -of wood coated with the contents paraffin causes a direct loss of is the type of glass carboy ordinarily used for shipments of sulphuric and other acids. These are bulky and fragile. These disadvantages have practically eliminated the use of carboys for formaldehyde shipments except in vcases where'leakagemust be avoided at all cost and 1n 'cases where contamination of the formaldehyde, even so little as would be caused by the absorption of coloring and other matter from wooden barrels, must be avoided'.
