My present invention relates to improvements in chutes or gravity eonveyers of the wall type, adapted especially for transferring merchandise or other packages from an upper floor or level to a lower floor or level.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an appliance for use in storag houses or ware houses whereby pack;

in the accompanying drawings 1 have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention adapted for transferring boxes of apples from one iioor or level of a warehouse to a lower floor, in which he parts are combined and arranged according; to the best mode I. have thus tar devise. for the practical application of the principles of my invention, and modification of this form of the invention is also illustrated in the drawings, wherein the chute is equipped with a specially formed portion forming a retarder adjacent to the discharge end oi the chute.

In carrying out my invention l utilize the side wall 1 of the building or warehouse and the upper door or level 2 and lower floor or level 3, as indicated in Figure l, the purpose of the appliance being to convey, by gravity, merchandise or other packages of goods from the upper level to the lower level, through the chute iisshown in Figure 1 the chute is a rigid structure hay in a curved outline, and hollow, preferably rectangular in cross section and made up of sheet plates forming the front and rear walls 5 and 5. and similar plates 6 and 6 forming the inner and outer sides of the curved structure. The curved plates 6 6 are each fashioned with flanged edges 7, and at 8 these edges are riveted to the edges of the fiat plates 5 and 5 as best seen in Figure 2.
The curved chute is located on the exterior of i he building wall 1 with its ends extendinp; through the wall, one above and the other below the floor 2, and the receiving: spout 9 and discharging spout 10 are located inside the buildi or warehouse. The spouts are of duplica e construction and form extensions oi? the chute, the ends of the atter beinp fashioned with four flanges 11 by means or which the chute is attached to the interior face of the building wall 1,v
while the spouts which are open at the rear. front and top are provided with three conipl 7 y, integral flanges 12, riveted at 13 to the flanges 11.
The spouts are made up oi? a single sheet or plate oi metal with bent integral flanges suitably perforated for rivets, and prefer-- ably the front edge of the bottom of each spout is turned under as at i l to present a blunt edge and provide a brace or reinforce ment for the receiving,- and discharging e1;- tensions of the chute.
The utility of the chute will be readily apparent, as it is obvious that the merchandisc, as

In Figure 5 the chute e" is illustrated in connection with the \WLH 1 and equipped with receiving end or extension 9 and discharge extension 10C As ameans for returding or braking the pussige oi the de scending box I ma utilize wee resseu portion or pocket at e adjacent tothe outlet'or discharge end oi the chute. Due to friction in the lower Well of the pocket caused by the sharp turn in the depression the box will be slecked up in its movement, and the friction may be such as to retard the box so that its momentum will be sufiicient only to discharge the box on the bottom of the e):-
