COMB ATTACHMENT.
Application filed. March 21, 1%22. Serial No. 545,436.
of a detachable handle for the comb so constructed as to be readily applied and fastened in such a manner that a direct pull may be secured on the comb when in use, ensuring. a much more efiicient operation thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a detachable comb handle constructed in such a manner that manipulation of the handle itself operates to clamp the same upon the comb. I
Nith these and such other objects in view as will be apparent from the description, my invention resides in the novel co1nbination, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the attachment as applied;
Figure 2, an end elevation of same;
Figure 3, a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure l, ure 3. 1
In this embodiment of the invention the device is shown as applied to a comb 1, and is formed in detail, of flat clamping plate 2, carrying at one end a laterally ex tending stem 3, the outer end 4 of which is threaded to receive thereover a nut 5 disposed in a hexagonal socket 6 sunk in the outer end of a handle 7 mounted on the stem to rotate thereover.
On the inner end of the handle is niounted a second clamping plate 8 which is slidable over the stem and provided with a heel portion 9 adapted to rest on the inner end of the handle 7. That portion of the a section on line ll of Figstem 3 which passes through the plate 8 and heel portion 9 thereof, is provided with a longitudinal groove adapted to receive rib 10 formed on the plate, whereby rotation of the plate about the stem is prevented.
Clamping plates 2 and 8 extend sufiiciently laterally of the handle so that they may be engaged and clamped against the comb 1 over one end thereof, and these plates are of relatively long and broad configuration. In operation, the comb is inserted between the plates 2 and 8, as illustrated, and on rotation of the handle 7 nut 5 will be turned over the threaded end of the stem 3 owing to the hexagonal formation of the socket 6, whereupon the stem will be drawn within the handle to clamp the plates against the comb. The length ofstem 3 is such that When the handle is in attached position it will not extend be yond the outer end of the handle.
While I have illustrated and described in this preferred form certain details of con struction of the invention, I desire it to be understood that I do not intend to limit myself to these, but that any such may-be used as will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
1 claim:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a handle member, clamping plates carried by said handle member, and means in said handle member for engaging said plates in clamping relation.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a. handle, a clamp disposed on one end of said handle, and means in said handle for operating said clamp.
3. A comb attachment comprising a clamping plate, a stem extending therefrom, a clamping plate slidable over said stem, a handle rotatable on said stem and provided with a socket in one end, and a mem ber carried in said socket cooperating with said stem for actuating said clamping plates.
at. In a comb attachment, a clamping plate, provided with a threaded stern extending therefrom, a rotatable handle disposed on said stem and provided in its outer end with a hexagonal socket, a nut disposed in said socket over said stein, a clamping plate loosely mounted on said stem between said first named plate and the inner end of the handle, whereby on rotation of said handle plates will be drawn together in clamp ing relation.
5. In a comb attachment, a clamping plate, threaded stem extending from one end thereof, a handle member rotatable over said stem and provided with a hexagonal socket in its outer end a clamping plate slidably disposed on said stern between the inner end of the handle and the first named clamping plate, means on said stem and slidable clamping plate for preventing r0- tation thereof, and a nut on the outer end of said stern and carried in said handle socket whereby on rotation of said handle member the plates will be drawn together 10 in clamping relation.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
