United States, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements' in Flush Valves, fully described and represented in the following specification and the ,accompanying drawings, forming-a part of the same.
The present invention relates to a flushvalve oi' the class thaty is shown 'and described 1n Patent No. 1,237,109 issued August la, 1917, .to Frank L. Shoppe for improvement in iiush-tank valves, and the present inven. tion embodies improvenients'in the construe Jor convenience, be used herein, although the chamber is oit cylindrical shape excepting the top. which is shown of dome-shape.`
The invention embraces various desirable constructive features, including a means of securingan elastic valve-seat upon the outlet.

These improvements willbe understood by reference to the annexed drawing, in which Fig. 1 is an elevation of a Hush-tank -with the nearer side removed; Fig, 2 is a central vertical section of the water-chamber or dome; Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectionk of the. outlet with the valve-seat and valve thereon; Fig. '4; is an'edge view of thev elastic seat;and Fig. 5 isa plan of theV outlet and hub thereon.

Owing to the elasticity of the rubber valveseat it may be made a little larger. than the recess,sothat when crowded therein it tirin-` ly retains its position. The recess and the collar o are shown of rectangular cross-section, but the upper or contiguous corners of both require, in practice, tobe rounded so that the rib may slip into the recess without those corners interfering with one another. rihis is shown at c" in Fig. 3. fr clamping arm H is shown held movably upon the` overflow pipe 'B' by La thumb-screw l, and the arm projects over the top of the dome G; so that when the arm is resting thereon and secured to the overflow pipe, the dome is held in the rebate d upon the hub. The, dome can be immediately re-` moved from the outlet by loosening the screw of the clampingfarmand raising it romthe socket an air-valve k upon the float-valve enters readily when the float-valve is raised tor emptying` the tank.
The neat-valve, as shown in Fig. 2, is hollow and may be blown or molded of glass so as to lioat, and have the foot of the airvalve )t anchored therein, as shown in Fig 2, which may be effected during the molding operation.
The lioat-valve is proportioned to form a clearance space for the passage of water between the sides of the valve and the chainber, the float-,valve to nearly touch the dome, and thus guide the float-valve in its movements therein.
The iloat-valveis tapered downwardly to enter 'freely into the valve-seat a which is attached to the outlet, which seat has a thin liange ilaredupwardly to it snugly to the lower end of the float-valve.
Until the tank is nearly emptied and air gains access to the water-inlets c, the buoyancy et' the float holds the air-valve pressed 'against the air-passage and prevents the valve from descending, which would choke the outlet B and obstruct the tree escape .of water therefrom.
.Vhen the tank is filled in readiness .for a flushing movement, the float-valve rests upon the valve-seat a and the flushing movement is initiated by liftingthe valve through. the agency of the rod g which passes loosely through the air-passage and is securerjl detachably in the air-valve ,71, as by a screw-thread. The rod rleaves space in the passage j' for the air to move inward and outward.
l'llhen the escaping, water is lowered to the level of the inlets c, air enters'the inlets,
and the water-column immediately loses its support and flows directly to the outlet B, causing the valve C to descend upon the valve-seat a. This terminates the discharge of the tank, and permits it to be immediately refilled by the supply-pipe B. y
The elastic seat heretofore used upon .such valves has been secured upon the outlet by a metallic ring fitted over a `tlange upon the edge oi the seat and connected to the outlet by lugs and screws.
Such ring has usually been riveted to the bottom end ot the deine, and access to the dome could be obtained only by removing the screws from the lugs.
