To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Nnr H. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve;
ments in Socket-Wrench Gontainers, of Which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
The invention relates to containers for tools; and the object of the iinproveilnent is to provide a simple and strong sheet metal socket wrench container which provides a locking element out of a part of the tool so that a plurality of different size socket wrench headsmay be retained in smallspace for use in automobile tool kits and similar places; and the invention consists in the novel features and combinations hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of .the socket wrench container with the handle inposition locking the the wrench heads in the container and locking itself within the container ends by means of 1 the resilient frictional ball fasteners in each endof said handle. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the wrench container with the looking wrench handle in position and showing the referred construction of the contalner, the I ocking bar handle being shown in section to' show .the construction of the spring ball fastener. Fig. 3 is a crosswise sectional view showing the cover on said container, said cover being locked in position by said wrench handle. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the wrench container with the socket wrench heads therein, the lockin bar handle being shown in dotted outline. ig. 5 is a side elevation of said locking bar a sectional view of the preferred construction .of the socket wrench head with'the angular end of the bar handle securely. held therein by means of the spring ball fastener. 7 is a perspective view of an end portion of container with cover thereon, the cover showing the hexagonal-shaped opening in the end to receive the bar handle of the socket wrench heads. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the socket end for the insertion of the hexa onal-shaped handle bar.

The numeral 10 designates the container which is handle. Fig. 6 is Fig.
preferably made of sheet metal and has the bent-up ends 11 and sides 12.
The ends 11 have the lugs 13 at each side to extend around the bent-up sides 12, and the sides'12 have the lugs 14 which b'end around the outer sides of the ends 11, thereby holding against one another at each corner and making a firm, strong and durable container which securely holds the heavy wrench socket heads, said container being shaped as to its dimensions so that the wrench socket heads 15 are easily received therein.
y In order to lock the wrench socket heads 15 in position, thehexagonal-shaped bar handle 16 is received through the similarly shaped openings 17 in each of the ends 11 long-end of the angular handle be inserted through the hexagholes 17 a spaced distance above so that the bar 16 may onal-shaped the socket wrench heads holding the wrench heads 15 in said container.
The socket wrench handle 16 is locked in the openings 17 of the container 10 by means of the frictional ball fasteners 18 which consist of a spring and ball inserted in a round hole 19 in each end of the bar 16 and serve the double in the hexagonal-shaped opening 20 in the Wrench sockets'15 and also holds said handle bar 16 in the openings 17, pressing easily through said openings 17 and preventing the Withdrawal of the bar without greater pressure than would naturally come upon said bar, it also being-necessary to prevent the bar 16' easily sliding through the hexagonalshaped holes 17.
The bar 16 is preferably given the angular shape by the right angle bend 21 so that a stronger leverage can be obtained by use of the short end where there is room for said leverage by turning the long end of the bar.

Wha-t'is claimed as new is: 1. In a container for a compound tool having certainof the'elements of the tool a locking element for retaining saidelements within the container comprising a part of said tool.
2. In a container for a compound tool havin elements with certain of the latter packe therein, means comprising a part of thetool common to all of said certain elements and engaged with each of the latter for retaining same within the container. 3. In ,a container for acompound tool having elements with cert'ain of the latter packed therein, a cover for the container, part of the tool engaged with each of said certain elements and with the cover for holding said certain elements inpacked positionin the container and'for holdingthe cover on the container. 4. In a container for a compound tool with certain of the latter packed therein, a cover for the container, and means to hold the cove-r on the container comprising a part of thetool.
5. A multiple socket wrench container comprising a receptacle having ends extending. above the sides of said receptacle, said ends having holes therethrough a spaced distance above the sides of said receptacle, a
cover struck up from sheet metal fitting over said upwardly extending ends,/ said cover having holes therethrough coinciding with the, holes through said upwardly extending ends, and a tool handle corresponding in to be received therethrough in looking engagement. 6, A multiple socket wrench container cemprisinga receptacle, oppositely projecting lugs on the sides and ends of said receptacle to hold against one another, said ends having hexagonal-shaped holes therethrough a spaced distance above the wrench sockets in said container, shaped handle bar for said sockets fitting in be received therethrough in looking engagement over said. wrench sockets, and resilient frictional fastenin s in the ends of said handle bar to lock said handle bar in said: hexagonal openings in said container ends.

A multiple wrench container struck up from sheet metal having its end portions extending upwardly above the socket wrench parts, lugs on the sheet metal sides and ends of said container to interclaspv and hold each corner, said upwardly extending ends having hexagonal holes therethrough, bar for said wrench sockets having spring ball fasteners in its opposite ends .to permit insertion of said bar through said hexagonal openings in said ends to lock said wrench sockets insaid container and lock said handle bar in said upwardly extending ends, said fasteners also locking the'ends of said handle bar in said wrench sockets, a cover'fitting over said upwardly extending ends, said cover having hexagonal shaped openings therethrough coinciding with said hexagonal-shaped openings in said upwardly extending ends to bar in said wrench receive said handle bar through said openings in said upwardly extending ends and said openings in the ends of said cover to lock the wrench sockets in said container and to lock said cover on said container.

In a container for compound tools, a receptacle having certain of the elements of the tool packed therein, locking means for retaining said elements in packed position within the receptacle comprising a part of the tool, means carried by the receptacle to support said locking means, and means carried by the locking means for latching engagement with the supporting means .to hold the locking means in position.

A multiple socket wrench container including a receptacle for, supporting the sockets by engagement with one end of the latter, apertured parts on the container for receiving the wrench handle and disposed sockets by engagement with one end, of the latter, apertured parts on the container for receiving the wrench handle and disposed so as to cause the handle to engage with 'the opposite ends of the sockets, and means carried by the handle to latch the latter in its locking position, and for engaging in the wrench sockets to latch the handle to the latter.
15. In a container for a compound tool having certain of the elements of the tool packed therein, a locking element for retaining said elements within the container comprising a part of the tool, and means for latching said part of the tool in locking position.
16. In a container for a compound tool having certain of the element-s of the tool packed therein, a locking element for retaining said elements within the container comprising a part of the tool, and means for. latching said partfof the tool in looking position, said latching means being, also formed to engage said certain elements to interchangeably latch same to said part of the tool.
