IMPROVEMNT IN LUBFICATING PULLEVS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,830, dated October 21,1873; application tiled August 1, 1873.
To all whomz't may concern:
Be it known that I, J. KING MCLANAHAN, of Hollidaysburg, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Lubricator, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a front elevation of a revolving Wheel or pulley, partly in section, on the line c c, Fig. 2, showing arrangement of lubricating part, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section on the line m m, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient lubricating device for the revolving wheels of pulleys, cars, 85o., by which a saving in the consumption of oil and a decrease in the wear of the axles are produced.
The invention relates to an improvement in the class of pulley and car Wheel lubricators in which a tube is arranged to projectradially from the hub Within a chamber, and through which the oil is conducted to the axle-j ournal, as illustrated in the patent of M. Gr. Ryan, May 9,1871. The invention consists in the combination of a wire-feeder with the oil-conducting tube, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Arepresents the wheel, pulley or other revolving body, in which two adjoining spolres or arms, a, are connected, so as to form the lubricator or oil=box B 5 or the same may be placed aroimd the hub. This oil box B may be either cast with the Wheel A or be made separate, and afterward attached in the usual manner. A tube, b, is either cast or otherwise set into oil-box B, passing through the core of wheel A to the axle of the same. Afeeder, d, is applied in the box B, either to the inside of tube b or to the tire. The tube b projects above the oil in box B, and is supplied at each revolution 0i' Wheel or pulley A with a small portion of oil, which, by by adhering to the feeder d, is thence carried t-o the journal. rIlle inclined side` aperture e with screw-stopper c allows the refilling of box B, and regulates also the quantity of oil in the same.
The lubricator is quickly and easily attended to, and reliable and economical in operation.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The wire-feeder d in combination with the tube b, connected with the inner periphery of the wheel within the oil-box B, as shown and described, to operate as specified.
, J. KING MCLANAHAN.
