Be it known that I, ROBERT E. MCCOY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and tate of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Return Envelopes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to envelopes, and more particularly to an envelope 0 the return type. I One of the main objects of the invention is to provide an envelope of the character stated of simple construction which may be readily produced at small cost. A further object is to provide an envelope which will present a neat appearance and will closely resemble an envelope of standard construction. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.

In constructing the envelope I provide a blank such as that illustrated in Figure 1 which is folded to provide a front sheet 1, back sheet 2, end flaps 3 at each end of the. back sheet and a main closure flap 4 at the upper edge of the back sheet. The front sheet 1 is cut to provide a return address flap 5 which, in practice, is turned upwardly against the inner face of flap 1, as in Figures 2 and 4, the opening left by turning flap 5 upwardly being covered by a transparent closure strip 6 forming a window through which the address of the person to whom the letter within the envelope is to be sent is displayed. In this case the address flap 5 is positioned against the inner face of the upper portion of sheet 1, the main closure flap 4 being turned downwardl inside V of the envelope the top of which is c osed by a supplemental closure flap 7 which is secured to the outer faces of the back and frontsheets 1 and 2 by suitable adhesive, thls supplemental flap being preferably formed from relatively thin but strong materlal and extending above the body of the envelope so as to be readily torn for openlng the same. The main closure flap 4 is preferably turned downwardly so as to fit over the npper portion of the letter 8 posit1oned within the envelope. By tearing off supplemental flap 7, which is preferably sealed by a stamp 9 placed on the front of the envelope, the flap 4 may be readily removed and the contents of the envelope, withdrawn. Q

When it is desired to use the envelope in replying to the sender, address flap 5 upon which the senders address is written is turned downwardly so as to-be positioned agamst the inner face of closure stri 6, thus displaying the original senders ad ress through this strip, as in Figure 3. After this has been done the letter is placed within the envelope and the main closure. flap 4 is turned downwardly over the outer face of front sheet 1 and is secured by any suitable adhesive in the well known manner. The flap 4 when turned downwardly over the outer face of sheet 1 serves to cover up the cancellation mark which may have been used in canceling stamp 9, this flap being also adapted to receive a stamp 9 which may, if desired, be placed upon the flap by the original sender before using the envelope. This provides simple and efficient means whereby a stamped envelope may be provided for prospective customers or clients and may be readily utilized for the purpose stated. The front and back sheets 1 and 2 are preferably secured together by means of. the end flaps 3, though any other suitable or preferred means for securing these sheets together may be employed.

What I claim is 1. In an envelope of the character described, front and back sheets, the front sheet being out to provide an opening and a return address flap for covering said opening, a main closure flap adapted to be inserted into the envelope or extended over the front sheet, optionally, and a supplemental closure flap for sealing the envelope when 2.
