To all whom it may concern:
1 Be it known that I, JOHN A. GIBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in a Car Door, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in car door structures and has for its primary object to provide a conveniently operable mechanism capable of shifting the door laterally with relation to the door hangers and car body whereby the door may be moved clear of such objects within the car that might be engaged therewith and thereby obstruct its movement.
Another object is the provision of an adjusting mechanism of this character for doors whereby the entire door is moved bodily a uniform distance from the car body thereby facilitating its sliding adjustment upon the supporting track.
Another object is the application of such devices to the door as permits of the utilization of the adjusting means therefor to lock the door in closed position.
With these and other objects inview as will appear as the description proceeds the invention comprises the novel features of construction, combination of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described in the following specification and set forth with particularity in the claim appended hereto.

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views the numeral 5 indicates one of the side walls of a car body provided with the usual roof 6, floor 7 and door way 8. A grooved supporting track 9 is secured horizontally above the door way 8 and extends a distance to one side thereof and receives the pairs of rollers 10 carried by substantially T-shaped hangers 11 the depending portions of which extend below the track 9 and are bifurcated and apertured to receive supporting pins 12 on which are rotatably mounted rollers confined between the bifurcations of each hanger. Depending retaining arms 13 are. secured to the head portions of the hangers 11 and are provided with angular lower terminals seated in the groove 1 1 formed in the bottom of the track 9 to prevent accidental displacement of the movable hangers from the track. r

When the door 15 is closed and moved inwardly to occupy the door way 8, the arms 2% lie in contact with the portion of the door and car body lying to the right of the respective parts to which they are connected and the terminal portions of the arms are slotted as at 26 to receive hasps 27 secured to the car door and body whereby preferred types of locks may be applied thereto to effectively lock the door in closed posii ion.

In a device of the class described, a horizontal track having an upwardly opening guide channel and downwardly directed guide web, a holder device, rollers pivoted in said holder device in spaced relation and engaging in said guide channel, a. guard member attachedto said holder between said rollers and with an inturned lower end to engage beneath said guide web, a hanger attached at the upper end to said holderand to: said guard member and furcated at the lower end, a bracket adapted to be attached to adoor and including a lateral extension longitudinally slotted, said extension being move is in the i'urca'tedportion of the. bracket, and a pin extending through theterminals of the hanger and the slot of the bracket.
