Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 143,797, dated October 21, 1873; application filed September 10, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN URE, of Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oorn-Husking Machines,

and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref erence being had to the accompanying draw ing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring .to the annexed drawing, which forms part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 elevation, of my machine.

A represents a table of any suitable dimensions to hold an ordinary-sized shock of corn, and arranged with a seat, B, at the end for the operator. In the table A is a slide, (1, provided with upright stakes D D to keep the corn from falling over back, and allow the operator to draw the corn toward him as required, and obviate the necessity of reaching to the back end of the table. Near the front end in the center of the table A is pivoted a a side bar, E, which extends downward, and is provided with a foot-piece, G. The lower end of the bar E is drawn forward by a spring, a. To the upper end of the bar Eis secured a metal arm, b, in the front end of which is set a knife, 1".

By pressing on the foot-piece G, the knife i is operated to out off the husks and butt of the ear of corn, so that the ear can be pulled out of the husk perfectly clean.

The knife 2' lies down on the top of the ma chine if the foot is pressed down on the footpiece, and is not in the way of drawing the stalks from the table to be cut by the knife, and is close to the operator.

The foot-piece being back of the frame gives room for the stalks that are husked to lie in front of the operator and under the knife.

On each side of the seat B is a rod, d, for

holding or supporting the'ends of the stalks that are husked, thus preventing s'catterin g on the ground until there is sufficient amount for a bundle, which the operator can bind and throw aside without moving from his seat.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The arrangement of the table A with seat B. and the slides 0, having standards D D, for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The combination of the table A, seat B,

slides O, standards 1), bar E with foot-piece Gr, spring a, arm b, knife 1', and rods (1, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
