ticularly test-amps designed to be used with plastic materials and prior to the final hardening of the plastic material, the object of the invention being to provide a stamp which, when pressed against the plastic mass, will impress vthe plastic mass with raised letters.

A further object is to provide a device oi this character in which the letters are perforated so as to permitl the escapev of air and thus cause the plastic mass to en'terinto the recesses forming the letters in the stamp.

Still another object is to provide a stamp of this character with removable and interchangeable letters.

Other objects will appear in the course oit' the following description.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawingsy wherein Figure 1 is an edge elevation of one form of my hand stamp;

Figure 3 is a top plan view of another form of stamp;

Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the manner in which the printing blocks or pieces are held in place;

Referring to Figure 1, 10 designates astamp which may be made of wood, metal, or any other suitable material, and which is in one solid piece and which may have any suitable form, as for instance the form of a diamond, square, circle, or the like. I have illustrated a sta-nip having the iorm of a diamond, but obviously I do not wish to be limited to this.

This stamp upon its outside face carries a handle 11. The inside 'face of the stamp is formed with depressed letters, that is `recesses 12 having the form of letters or having` an ornamental form, these letters being sunken into the face of the stamp, and each letter, ligure or ornament having extending from ita plurality of perforations 13 opening uponthe outer faceof the stamp. These perforationsl are particularly vital, in

asmuch as they permit the escape oit air. If

no` perforations were present, the stamp *wou drnot work properly and lwould not give a clearly defined raised letter on thework, for ythe reasonv that vthe `air `would be trapped lin the recesses, could not escape, and would prevent 4the filling of the recesses with the plastic mass. j f

In Figure 3, I show anothertorm of my `invention particularly designed for use in pressing concretev blocks, curbstones, flagstones, or-the like with thenames of streets `or the nainesof persons or places. In this.v drawing is shown va frame rconsisting of a plurality of parallel bars 14 connected at the ends and intermediate the ends bytransJ verse bars 15. The bars 14: are disposed insidelot the bars 15 and these bars 14 are formed to'provide longitudinally extending grooves k16. Inasmuch as there are three bars 14, the middle bar 14a having double .grooves 16, it` follows that there are two slideways and in these slideways letter blocks 17 are designed to lit having laterally projecting flanges 18 engageable in the grooves 16. rIhe face of each block 17 is formed with a sunken letter, figure or ornament, as heretofore described, and designated 19, and these sunken or depressed lines forming the letters, figures or ornaments are connected to the front of t-heblock or outside tace of the block by means of the perforations 20. A handle 21 is attached to theoutside face of the frame.

With this construction itis obvious that the letter blocks or figure blocks or blocks having sunken ornaments on their faces may be inserted in the guideways between the bars 111 and 14a so as to give the name of a place or person and then this mold or stamp may be used :tor forming raised characters upon the face of the plastic mass prior to its eventual hardening. This invention makes raised letters or ligures upon the face of the concrete or other plastic mass which may be used to advertise the builders of iat work, such as floors, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, re-

taining walls, bridges, etc. The last letter stamp is intended to be used in numbering streets or stamping the names of individual property owners or the number of the house on work done in front of their respective homes.

The form of stamp illustrated in Figure l can be made in sheet metal. It makes it light and attractive. The stamp is used after the surface of the Work has been troweled and the water has evaporated. The stamp is laid on the concrete andtapped lightly and the desired result is secured. Obviously I do not Wish to be limited to the eXact form of the stamp illust-rated, asthis might be varied in many Waysfwithout departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the accompanyingy claims.

l claim:

l. A stamp for plastic material having a face having indentations deiining characters, the indentat-ions communicating With the back ofthe etampand theatrnosphere by pei-forations and a handle forming part of the stamp and disposed onthe opposite face of the stamp from said indentations.

2. A stamp ofthe character described comprising a frame having a handle, and

a plurality of interchangeable blocks insertable into the frame, k.each of Said blocks hav,- ing a face formed with an inden.tationede-y fining a character, the indentation communi` eating with the backof'the block andthe atmosphere by a perforation.

3. A stamp off the-character described comprising a frame including a plurality ofl parallel bars, these bars having confronting recesses formed on their edge faces, the frame having a handle, and interchangeable blocks insertable into place between said bars and having flanges engaging the recesses, each of said blocks having upon its faces an indented character, the character having a perforation communicating with the opposite face of the block and with the atmosphere. v 1
