` A supporting'irame is provided, and is formed of two uprights 6 which are coupled together by a horizontalguide bar 7 at their upper parts, and two distance pieces 8 at their lower parts.' The guide bar 7 is preferably cylindricalwyand 10 are two` carriages. which are slidable,longitudinally on guide bar, and have lugsl2 and adjusting screws 14 so that they canbe adjusted to slide freely on'the guide'bar withoutbeing extremely loose.` The carriages aretightened on the guide bar by` contracting them by means of the screws 14.

The wire of which the armature coil is f ormed is wound into the `form of-a long link, and the end portions of this link are placed on the two pins 21k so that it issus-l uprights 6 under' the guide bar7. Each.
arm has a stop pin 27 which is adjustable circumferentially in a curved slot 29 in the upright, and which operates' to; limit the movement of the arm. The curved slots are arranged concentric with the pivot pins 26.
Each arm is provided with a sleeve 30 which` is adjustable longitudinally on it, and whichl is provided with a fastening screw 31,-`andv each sleeve has an eye 32on the side of it nearest to the guide bar 7.
The two arms 24 are arranged at the front of the machine, and the twok arms 25 are arranged 'atkits rear part. Afront bar 34 is arranged horizontally and issecured inthe eyes 32 of the iront arms 24, yandy a similar bar 35 is secured between the two rear arms 25, and is arranged 34. f f I Each horizontal` bar 34 and 35 has 'two similar clam blocks 36 secured on it by screws 37 .v T e clamp blocks are adjustable on the bars, and can be secured to them at any desired distance apart. The -clamp blocks 3G. of the rontbarare arranged to project rearwardly, and the clamp blocks of the rear bar are arranged to project forwardly. lach clamp block 36 has a hookshaped jaw 38 the stem ot'which is jour.- naled in the free end -portion of the yblock and provided with a locking` screw 39. Each clamp. block has also ank adjustable jaw 40 which is provided with a slot 4l, and a screw 42 for securing it .in-position.
lThe ends 454 of the wound coil are placed in engagement with the pins 2l, and the clamping jaws are set at suitable distances apart fon the bars 34 and 35, vand at suitabley distancesy from the pivot vpins 26 0I" the arms, so that they will engage withy the longiparallel to the front bary ico tudinal stretches 46.01:n the coil, which are each other instead of being parallel, and so that the end portions 45 are set at an angle to the axis of the guide bar 7. The car-r riages 10 slide towards each other when the armsy are moved apart. The carriages l0 slide freely, but their trictional resistance may be adjusted, if necessary, by means ofv the=screws 14:. Any suitable stops may be applied t0 limit the length of the sliding movements of the carriages 10, if desired, but they stop sliding automatically when they arms 24 and 25 strike the stops 27.
The various parts of this machine can be set and adjusted so that wire coils of dillerent size andiweight can be bent and twisted. The coils can also be bent and twisted to form differently proportioned coils to suit different armatures. rlhe completed bent and twistedy ycoil is removed from the machine by turning around the hook-shapedr clamping jaws and permitting the arms to move towards each other alittle, so` as to permitthe coil to be lifted out ot the clamping jaws, the pins 2l Ibeing rer-loved to .tree the ends oia the coil.
What I claim is:
l. ln an apparatus for operating on an armature coil with end portions and longitudinal stretches, a frame provided with slidable supports for engaging with the end portions o-an armature coil, and front and rear arms pivoted to the said frame and provided with means for engaging with the longitudinal stretches of the coil, the said arms operating to bend and twist the'coil when moved apart and crosswi'se of it.
2. In an apparatus for operating on an armature coil with end portions and longitudinal stretches, a trame provided with a longitudinal guide bar, carriages slidable on the guide bar and provided with means for engaging with the end portions of an armature coil, and front and rear arms pivoted to the frame and provided with means for engaging with the longitudinal stretches of the coil. f
3. In an apparatus for operating on an armature coil ywith end portions and longitudinal stretches, a trarne provided with a longitudinal guide bar, carriages slidable on the guide bar, laterally adjustable brackets secured on the said carriages, pins supported by the said brackets and adapted to engage` with the endportions of an armature coil, and front and `rear arms pivoted. to the tions oLt an armature coil carried byy the said carriages, and front and rear arms pivoted to the trame and provided with means for engaging with the longitudinal` stretches. ofi

In an apparatus :tor operating on an armature coil with end port-ions and vlongitudinal stretches, a frame provided with slidable supports for engaging f with the end portions Aof an armature coil, front and rear arms pivoted to the said frame and movable crosswise of the coil, front and rear bars extending-between the said arms, and means tor engaging with the longitudinal stretchesv of the coil adjustable longitudinally on the said bars. In an apparatus for operatingon an* armature coil with end portions and longilt-udinal stretches, a frame provided with slidportions of an armature coil, front and rear arms pivoted to the said frame and movable erosswise of the coil, and adjustable stops for the arms carried by the frame, said arms being provided with means for engaging with the longitudinal stretches of the coil.
10. In an apparatus for operatn on an armature coil with end portions an longitudinal stretches, a frame provided with uprights and a bar secured between the up- 10 rights, means for engaging with the end portions o an armature coil carried by the said bar, pins projecting inwardly from the uprights under the said bar, and front and rear arms pivoted on the said pins and movable crosswise of the said bar and pro- 15 vided with means for engaging with the longitudinal stretches of the coil.
