Appiieation sied-september ze, 1921.2 4seran No. 503,125.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, LAWRENCE E. BAER, acitizen of the United States', residing" Attleboro. in the county of Bristol and State lof .l\/.[assacliusetts, havel invented new and and disconnected while maintaining a fixed relationto lthe Abelt,'or in other words without disturbing'the predetermined diameter of the belt. y g
The primary object of the present invention is to provide improved means for enabling the belt ends to be easily and quickly connected and disconnected` further object of the invention is to, -provide means for connecting the two parts of the buckle, which means are formed in tegralwith each of the buckle parts. f The invention further aims to provide means whichare of simple and economical character and whichare devoid of all mov-- ing parts.
Further and other objects will be laterset following description. Inthe drawings:
Figure l, is `a rear side elevation;
forth and manifested in the course of the Figure 2, is a section on line Qf-Q/,of Figure l; f
Figure 3, is ure l; andy f .i
Figure 4, is a view' similar to Figure l of a modified form of the invention.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the buckle is composed of a front member l. of approximately hollowk formation having its side edges 2l rolled over to hold the flanges 3 of a back plate 4 against the rear face ofthe body of the member l as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. The, back plate 4 hasappro`ximately T-shaped heads 5 struck out therefromtlie, heads 5 formingpmale members which are receivablein corresponding openings 6 formed lin the plate 7 that constitutes the rear member of the buckle, the latter having avbail `8 to which one end of the belt is permanently secured. The opposite end of they belt is passed throughthe hollow front member l between the back plate 4t `and the body pf the front.
a section on line 3 3 of Figin the plate 7 is Y therefrom, means vmember, and
member and is adjustably clainpedagainst the rear of the,y body of the front member by a clamping` screw or device 9. will be l understood that after the belt liasbeen advjusted as to its diameter the screw' 9y isoperated-to clamp the belt end extending within member l firmly to the latter,l and this adjustment is maintained-definitely throughout as long a period as desired.- lt will now bel seen that the'belt may-be applied and re- 1noved`v without `disturbing the diameter thereof by merely relatively sliding the front and back members Il and 7 lso as to causejtlie heads 5to enter the enlarged parts ofthe slots or openings 6, lfollowing which the heads 5 4are disengaged fromthe plate 7 by merely laterally moving the parts l andv 7 away from each other, or spreading same.
In the preferred form of the invention there are two fastenings employed, located on the respective opposite sides of the yclamping device 9, while in Figure 4- of the drawings but one fastening is employed.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the fastenings for connecting the members l and. 7 are devoid of'all moving parts and are 'moreover integral with each of ,the respeetive members, and since the outward'pressure of the body of the wearer vo n the -belt vacts to cause the plate 7 to move in a direction iii which the narrow ends ofthe'openings 6 abut the stems or slianks of the heads 5,'accidental disengagement of the partsfis' virtually assured against. The opening l0 merely' formed for the'purpose of accommodating the handle of the clamping device-9 so that theplate 7 can. be removed and applied accordingly. Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent' is ry l.' in a belt buckle, a hollow frontv member formed toreceive one end of the belt therein and having a backplate formed with a i spaced pair of T-shaped heads struck .out
between said heads to lixedly secure said end of the belt to the front a back member including a plate having means to fiXedly secure the op- `posite ends of the belt thereto and having a y.lio
the belt end securing means being adjustable,
and a head and socket connection betweenV the back of the front member and the back member to connect andr disconnect the members by a relative lateral and sliding movement between the two, the back member having its side portions engaged with the said outwardly, projectingr parts on the back oi" the front member to assisi' in holding the back member in position.
3. in a belt buckle, ahollow ront'member formed to receive one end of the belt` therein and having a bacl plate formed with a spaced pair of T-shapedz heads integral therewith, mea-ns between said heads to zedl7 secure said'end of the belt to the Jfront member, and a back member including a plate engaged with the rear tace of the back plate of theront member and having means to iixedly secure the opposite ends of the belt thereto and having` a pairiof T-shaped slots to receive said heads so as to connect the membersupon movement. ofthe same to bring the shanls of the head into 'tbe narrowed partsof the slots.
4C. In a belt buckle, a front member formed hollow to receive one end of the belt there in, .means to secure vthe belt in said member, a back member engageable with the back of the viront member and havingv means to cure the opposite end ofthe belt thereto, one oii the belt end securing means beinfr adjusb able. and a head and socket connection between the back oi" the iront member and the back member to rconnect and disconnect the members b v a relative lateraland sliding movement between the two.
In testimony whereoil I have signed my! name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing` witnesses.
