To all whom t may concern Be it known that l, WimAM D. GREEN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Arrowhead Springs, in the county of San v Bernardino and State of California, have invented nevv and useful. Improvements in F ruit Jars,.of which the following is a speciication.

This invention comprehends the provision of a cover for fruit jars or the like. together with adjustable means whereby the cover can be sealed with any desired degree of pressure, and the cover associated with or removed from the iar Without the use of tools or other instruments.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a cover and fastening means therefor, which in its entirety can be re-` moved from one jar and used in conjunction with another jar, and wherein any of the ciaiinedc ln the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of a jar showing the sub-ject matter of the present inven tion.

What I claim is l. The combination with a jar having an annular shoulder, of a cover having a flange arranged above the shoulder, a gasket interposed between the` ilange and shoulder, a sectional band surrounding the bar immediately beneath the shoulder, fastening elements detachably connecting the respective sections of the band together and rising above the latter, said shoulder having grooves for the reception of the astening elements, said flange having notches co-inciding with said grooves,a clamping bar arranged above the cover and having openings for the reception of said fastening elements, a spring interposedbetween the bar and said cover, 'and winged nuts associated with the upper ends of said fastening elements for the purpose specified.

2. In combination, a jar cover, a centrally raised portion formed. on said cover, fastening elements arranged at the opposite sides of the jar, means connecting said elements with the jar, a clamping bar extended across the cover, and having openings for the reception of said fastening elements, a coiled spring interposed between the cover and said bar, the lower convolution of said spring embracing the said raised portion of the cover, an annular plate carried by said clampin bar and against which the upper end of t e s ring bears, a flange depending from said cent convo ution of the spring, and Winged nuts threaded on the upper ends of said fastening elements as and for the purpose spec-ified.
