SAFETY LID Foru TANKS.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
l Be it known that I, ARMANDO BAU'rIs'rAy FAooiANo, a citizen of the Argentine Re- Tanks, of which the following is a specifica-` tion.
This invention relates to safety lids or covers for tanks in general, and particularly for those destined to contain naphtha or gasoline or other products of some Value, in order to prevent the contents from being fraudulently extracted therefrom.
As will be seen from the following descifiption, the invention substantially consists in providing the ordinary screw lids or covers, with a lockingdevice requiring a special key for its operation, in order that after the lid having been adjusted in position, the lock will be operated and nobody will be able to remove or open the lid without the use of said special key.
For the better understanding of this description, detailed drawings have been anneXed thereto, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a safety lid or cover, constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an upper plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the same lid, applied to the mouth or opening of the tank, with the key inserted in position.
Figure 4 illustrates a plan view of a suitable device for the operation of the lock.
In said drawings, 1 indicates the ordinary lid or cover, at the front part of which is provided a perforation adapted to be tightly closed by means of the screw cap 2 and the purpose of which is to serve as key hole. Inside the lid is secured by means of the screw 3, a casing 4, whose top 5 and bottom 6 are retained in position by means of the screws 7. On the bottom 6 is mounted the means which constitute the locking device. This device comprises a bolt 8 with a double dog, being guided in its displacement by the openings of the casing and by the rear abutment sto 9. f
'lEhe tumbler 10 pivots on the stud 11,
being operated in turn by the contractionl spring 12. The tumbler is formed with a finger 13 which by taking into the notches 14 formed at the edge of the central part of the bolt, prevent this latter from being withsl drawn from the projected position to which it has been carried by the operation ofthe key 15.
On the opposite edge of said central part of the bolt is formed a partial rack 16 with which engages a toothed sector 17, operated by the disc 18. This latter rotates freely on the rod 19 and is provided with a recess 2O for engagement with the key, and with a projecting part 21 for raising the tumbler 10 and so release the bolt from the retention finger 13. j
The bit of the key is provided with notches or teeth, to correspond with the notches formed on the casing ward 22.
` In the interior of the threaded mouth 23 of the tank, an annular groove 24 or a series of recesses is formed, with which engage the two heads of the bolt 8, thereby preventing the lid from being removed after the bolt has been carried to its locking position.
The mouth 23 and the lid 1 are fitted onto a leather washer 25.
Ther operation of the locking device is as follows: After withdrawing the screw plug 2, the key is inserted into the opening left by the saine, so that the extension of the key will enter into the recess of the disc 18. By this arrangement, the displacement of the key will guide the said disc and this latter, while raising with its projection the tumbler 10, operates ywith the toothed sector 17 the rack 16, and in consequence the bolt 8 which will be caused to advance and engage with its ends with the recesses or cavities 24.
Having now described my invention, I declare that what I claim, is:
1. A flanged cover for vessels having a hole in its top adapted to be closed by a plug and provided with a` lock wholly within the cover below the hole thereof, the said opening when the plug is removed serving as a` keyhole, said lock comprising a sliding bolt,
a rotatable key-operated member, a bolt-op-v erating member carried by the key-operated member, and a pivoted and spring pressed member having interlocking engagement with the bolt and operated bythe key-op-` erated member.
2. The combination with a ianfged cover for a vessel, of a lock casingsecured in the toothed sector carried by the disk and engaging the rack7 a member pivoted at one end, and a spring secured to a fixed support and to the other endl-ofl the'member `said member being adapted to be operated by the pin of the disk and having a finger intermediate of its ends for engaging the notches of the bolt. f
3. A lock for covers of vessels, Comprising a easing adapted to be secured inthe cover, a sliding bolt having a forked end and provided on one edge with a rack and on its other edge with notches,a rotatable member provided with a recess and a pin, a toothed sector carried by the said member, a pivoted and spring pressed `member having a inger for engaging the notches of the bolt, and a key having an extension engaging the recess of the rotatable member` -`ARMANDO BAUTISTA FACCIANO.
