RIFLE-FEEDING ATTACHMENT. 7 I 3 Application filed February 18, 1922. Serial No. 537,553; i
To crllwhomit may concern: y 1 Be it known that I. rtxnnnw BoHNA'n, c1t1 zen of Poland, reslding atMcClellandtown,
' in the county of Fayette and State of Penn'- ments, of which the followin sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rifle-Feeding Attachis a specificaa hen. J
. This inventlon relates generally to rifles,
having more particular reference to a magazine attachment arranged to permit of the firing of a large number of shots without rezine attachment applied thereto.
charging.
The invention has for a'general object to provide a magazine attachment which will contain a much larger number of cartridges than magazines now in use, in connection withrifles.
For further comprehension of the..invention, and'of the objects and advantagesthereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, andto the appended claims inwhich the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
I Fig. 1 of the drawings is a partial side view of a rifle having my improved maga- Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings 10 indicates the barrel of the rifle, and 11 the stock. In the rear of the barrel 10 are two transverse openings 12 and 13 respectively, for
section on the line reception of the cartridge and discharge of the shell. The rifle is provided with a breech bolt 14 of suitable construction which moves the cartridges forward into the breech and extracts the shells. v
My improved magazine attachment comprises a box 20 or magazine proper, which may be placed on any suitable support and whlch is provided with the vertically spaced inclined partitions or shelves 21 upon which the cartridges are placed as indicated in Fig.
I 2. The 'box 20 isclosed on one side by a hinged door 23 provided with a snap fastener 24.
Extending upwardly across that end of the box 20 toward which the partitions 21 incline downwardly is'one reachof an endless carrier belt 25 which in effect, forms the end of the box, the upwardly moving reach of the belt being spaced apart from bore of the barrel.
the-endsof the partitions 21 a distance arranged i'n'corresponding rows along oppo- 'sitef sides ofthejbelt and spaced from one another longitudinally. of the latt'er,'a',,-distanceequal to the'spacingof 'the partitions 21. These fingers are .curved 'concavely on their forward sides as shown so as'to prop-- efly hold the Cartridges the latter bein i dicated at 28 in Fig. 2', Y
"slightly greater than the diameter of] the.
cartridges.- Fixed to this beltare fingers 26.
The carrier belt' 25 1s loopedat lower and 2 upper ends respectively around rollers 30 andj81- journaled in chute-like member comprising the side boards 32 and connecting board '33. .The belt 25 is advanced by rota-y tion of the upper roller 31 andto'ensure of proper engagement the roller .30 is provided with teeth :35 engaging in holes 36in; the
belt. As each, cartridge iscarried over the front of the bolt 14 and alining with the It'will be understood top of the roller 31 it falls by gravityon a series of inclined fingers 37 projecting from the barrel and rolls into a'ohamber' 39 in t that the fingers 26 and 37 are, staggered I into thestock permitting of its ready removal when desired. I
The carrierv belt 25 is intermittently adon adouhle screw lfi'extending along and journaled under the stock, the sleeve having a rib 4.7 on one side engaging in alongitudinal slot 48in the under face of thestock' vanced by means of a sleeve;455 reciprocable to hold it against rotation. Fixed to'oneend of the screw 46 is a gear pinion 5O meshing with a larger gear 51 journaled in one of the'side boards 32, this gear 51 .in turn meshing with a gear 52 fixed co-axially to roller 31;
To cause reciprocation of sleeve to rotate screw 16 the former has pivoted therein between its ends as at 53 an elongated stud 54: I
which engages in the threads of the screw.
As shown in Fig. l of the drawings theltwo f threads of the screw unite at their ends in straight grooves 55 and it will be noted that these straight grooves are circumferentially :ofiset with respect to the apices 56 of the two threads so that when the stud travels I through one thread until it engages in the straight portion its opposite movement will causelit to engage in the other thread so that the screw is always rotated in the one direction.
In theoperation of the riflethe cartridges are delivered successively t'o the bar-rel by. reciprocatin being done .111 the usualrnanner'by' the :bolt

To prevent any chance of, the cartridges be understood that wide changes and varia'--' tions' rnight be made in the construction without departing from the spirit and scope. ofthe imrehtibnt f1 7 jI-I avingthus' described my in'vent'ion what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent-ofthe United States is as; fol- 1.
