To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. TEACHER,
Jr., a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing I at 1546 Smith Street, North Providence, in
the county of Providence-State of Rhode Island,have invented certain new and useful Improvements inv Dumping -Grates for S-tokers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to
.,make and use the same.
My invention is an improvement in dumping'grate for stokers of thecharacter set forth in my Patent No. 1,302,453, granted 1 April 29,1919, and thepresent application is a continuation in part of my prior application, Serial No. 353,423
-stoker forming the subject-matter of the above mentioned patent, wherein means is provided in connection with the structure for facilitating the repair thereof and for permittingthe easy. removal andreplacement of parts of the structure which may become .brokenor otherwise damaged.

The improved dumping grate consists of Figures 3 and 4. Each of these grate sections is T-shaped in cross section, the body portion of the T forming a grate surface 5 for supporting the fuel, while the stem ofthe T isa fin depending from the center of the gratejsurface and having transverse holes or openings 7 for 'a purpose to'be presently described. The forward end of the grate surface of each section is adapted to rest upon the upper edge of the curved shield 2, and referring to Figures 1 and 2 it will be seen that this edge is bevelled to fit the under face of the grate surface, which is curved upwardly at the forward end of the section. The other end of the grate surface of the section rests on the crossbar 3, and it will be noticed referring to Figure 2, that the upper edges of the curved shield, and of the crossbar 3 are depressed below the upper edges of the side members 1 of the frame, so that the upper faces of the grate section are flush with the upper edges of the side members.
The grate sections are held in placein the frame and on the shield and crossbar by means of a rod 8, which is passed transversely through openings 9 in the side members, and through those openings of the series 7 of the fins which register with the openings 9. In order to permit the connection of mechanism forlrocking the grate with the grate, I provide openings 12 near the lower edge of the curved shield, and preferably near the center thereof, for receiving bolts 13 which connect a lug or arm 14 to the curved shield. This lug is notched or rabbeted to receive the curved shield, and the bolts 13 are engaged by nuts 15 to rigidly connect the parts together. It will be noticed referring to Figure 2 that the openings 12 for the bolts 13 are reamed on the outer face of the shield, to receive the heads of the bolts, in order that the said heads may be flush with the convex surface of the shield.
