To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEoncE SANDIFER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Moberly, county of Randolph, and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car Seals, of which the following is a speciflcation containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the acctmpanying drawings, forming a part here- 0 My invention relates to improvements in car seals and has for its principal object the construction of a seal which when applied in use cannot be removed without be ing destroyed, and consequently prevents 1ts re-use.

Referring by numerals ing drawings:
6 indicates the cut or stamped blank out of which I construct my improved seal. This blank is stamped from a sheet of thin metal, such as tin, and is provided with the portion 7 which forms the bottom of the housing and the portions 8 which form the side walls, the portion 9 which forms the top and the portions 10 and 11 which form the end walls of the housing. The portion 11 is slightly narrower than the portion 10 so that when the blank is bent in final form to form the housing, the slot 12 is provided, through which one end of the sealing loop 13 may be inserted.
In making the seal, the sides 8 are folded at right angles to the bottom 7 thus forming the side walls of the housing 14, the portion 9 isthen folded parallel with the portion 7 thus forming the top of the hous ing. and the portions 10 and 11 are folded at right angles to the portion 8 thus forming the end walls of the housing. When this folding operation has been completed the joints are welded or soldered, as occato the accompany- .end of the sealing loop 13 1920. Serial no, 433,118.- s-ion may require, thus forming ahousing 141 provided with an entrance opening 12 for the free end of the sealing or fastening loop 13, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
It will be observed from Figs. 2 and 3 that the sealing or fastening loop 13 is formed integral with the material out of which the housing is formed, and its free end is provided with an opening 15 which is adapted to engage with the hook-spring 16, the end 17 of which is welded or soldered to the inside of the bottom of the housing and its free end engaging with the top wall 9 of the housing. (See Fig. 2).
Secured to the opposite end of the housing and to the bottom thereof is a spring 19, the free end of which rests against the spring 16. The spring 19 prevents the free from becoming disengaged from the hook 16.
In the operation of my device, after it has been formed substantially as described, the free end of the sealing or fastening loop 13 is inserted through the opening 12 o the housing and is pushed forward on the spring 16 until the end of the spring 16 passes into the opening 15. The end of the loop is then pulled in a reverse and past the free end of the spring 19 an when in this position the free end of the loop cannot be detached or unfastened, the spring 16 preventing its withdrawal in one direct-ion and the spring 19 its removal in the opposite direction.
It is obvious that a seal so constructed cannot be removed from use without destroying the seal and thus preventing its reuse. The springs 16 and 19 are secured. to the bottom wall of the housing before it is formed and the housing is firmly and securely welded together at its joints and is stamped from a single piece of material, there being no parts to detach and replace.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
A car seal, comprising a rectangular housing stamped from a single sheet of material and provided with an opening in one end, a fastening and sealing loop provided with an opening in its free end and formed indirection tegral with the bottom wall of said housing.
