To all 'whom t may concer/n.:
Be it known that I, Lnsnm M. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Tmprovement in Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for securing a plurality of `sheets together. It is especially adapted for use where it is desired to secure together a number of sheets of perforated paper. It has for one object. to provide a fastener that can be quickly put in use and quickly released. Another object is to provide "a fastener which can be used to secure together a widely varying number of sheets, without any change in form or other readjustment. Cther objects will appear from time to time throughout the specification and claims.
The invention is illustrated more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a plan view of the fastener in place, with parts shown in dotted lines;

A is a pile of sheets of paper. perforated at A', Communicating with the perforation A is a slot A2. which may be omitted.
B is the outer member of the fastener. It has the two upwardly extending arms: B B. terminating in the hooks B2, B2. These hooks are shown-as having rounded ends, but the shape of the ends might be varied. B3 is a lateral tongue from the member B. It is adapted to project beyond the edge of the material with which it is used and to be bent about it, as shown in the drawings, to prevent rotation of the member with relation to the material which it is holding.
C is the inner member. Tn the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4 it is substantially circular in section; although this is not necessary. It isprovided with the flat head C which has in its under side the point C2 adapted to engage or penetrate the material which it is holding, in the manner shown in Fig. 2. The shank of the member C has the two oppositely arranged smooth surfaces C2, C3 and the two oppositely arranged notched surfaces C4 C4.
Instead of the point C2 any ridge or formation adapted to engage the upper surface of A and prevent rotation of the part C might be substituted.
In the form shown in Fig. 6 the under side of the part G is smooth and the tongue C5 is provided. This tongue is attached to C and is adapted to be bent, as shown lijn Fig. 6, to prevent rotation of the mem- In the form shown in Figs. 7 and 8 a different form of the upper member is used. Itconsists of the part D, having the downwardly extending notched arms D D', adapted' to be engaged by the hooks F2 F2. The tongue D2 is provided and is adapted to be bent downwardly about the block of material to prevent rotation of the part D.
In the form shown in Figures 3 and 4 the member B ismade wider than the distance between the arms B B, so as to overie and extend beyond the edges of the hole into which the arms are inserted. In the form shown in Figures 7 and 8 this is not the case. Thus the member F has no lateral projections and it and the member F3 are substantially of thesame width as the gap between the two upwardly extending members F F. Either form may be used. but each has features which recommend it for certain uses. The arms B B contact the inside of the perforations of the sheets adjacent the hooks B2 B2 and they are thus additionally supported. This feature, while not necessary, is one which makes to strengthen the hold of the parts on each other and to make accidental displacement less likely.

As a new article of manufacture a fastoning` device for securing t gether a plurality of sheets of perforated material comprising two interlocking members adapted to lie between said perforations, one adapted to surround and grip the other, said surrounding member including two upwardly extending hook arms, said surrounded member including a shank having two oppositely placed smooth surfaces and two oppositely placed notched surfaces, said notched surfaces positioned between said smooth surfaces and adapted to be engaged by said hook arms, said interlocking members held against relative outward longitudinal movev ment when said notched portions are en gaged by said hook members, and free to have relative outward longitudinal move ment when said smooth portions are in opposition to said hook members, said interlocking members free at all times to have relative inward longitudinal movement.

As a new article of manufacture a fastening device adapted to secure together a plurality of perforated sheets of material, said. device comprising` two interlockingr n'iembers, one adapted to surrouno and grip the other., said surrounding member comijirising two upwardly extending hook arms, said surrounded member comprising a shank and two oppositely placed smooth surfaces and two oppositely placed notched surfaces, said notched surfaces positioned between said smooth surfaces, one of said members provided with a laterally extended member adapted to bend about an edge of said sheets, the other member provided with means for engaging the exposed surface of one of said sheets.
