Description

UNITED STATES ALMEDA CLARK BYAM,
PATENT OFFICE OF HOPKINTON, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN UTERINE SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,615, dated October 14, 1873; application fhd January 27, 1873.
To all whom tmcy concern:
Be it known that I, ALMEDA CLARK BYAM, of Hopkinton, Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Uterine and Bladder Supporter; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being made to Figure l of drawings.
This invention relates to a uterine and bladder supporter, which is composed of vulcanized rubber; and the invention consists of a supplemental piece attached to the stem for the purpose of better holding the pessary in place.
C is a cup supporting the mouth and neck of the uterus, holding it in its place or natural position without irritation, and made entirely of hard rubber, or with soft rubber at the sides and base. D is a hollow tube or stem opening through the bottom of the cup the entire length of the stem, thus allowing the secretions from the uterus to pass entirely out of the system,
thus preventing excoriations and ulceration by their retention or absorption in the vagina. Referring to the drawing, at the lower end of the stem D there are two orifices at F, through which elastic tapes or tubing are passed to connect with a band or support above to hold the supporter in its proper place. E is a flange, commencing at the top and front of the cup() at g, and connecting with the lower part of the stem at h, for the purpose of preventing the falling of the bladder and urethra, and keep ing them in their positions, free from irritation and inammation, and also to hold the cup or pessary iirinly in case of retroversion, antevcn sion, or prolapsus of either organ.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim -as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The supplemental piece E, attached to the cup of the pessary at one end, and to the stein at the other, all as and for the purpose described.
