nated at 19 and the paper as it is unrolled from .the roll passes over the support 12 as seen in Figures 2 and l of the drawiiigs and .issues from the box 1 through a long slot 2O in the side 1"'. ont at 2l to facilitate grasping of the edge of the paper sheet to pull the same across the support 12. i
As'seen in the drawings, the paper for the roll 19 when manipulated to pass over the support 12 rests upon said support and is maintained spaced from the under inked side of the inking member 5. It is therefore necessary that the portion of the inking member 5 `above the sheet upon which the impression is to be made shall be depressed to establish lContact* 'between said sheet and the inkin'g member to apply the inked impression to the sheet. I provide on the uppersurface of the supporting member acovering 12a. I have used billiard cloth as the preferable covering material.
It is notable that the inking instrumentalities and the impression sheet supply or feeding instrumentalities are assembled in one unit on and Aabout the support 12 and may be bodily removed therefrom,- these parts being illustrated as Figure 3. Shouldit be requiredto remove and replace the inkin-g member lofthe cross l piece 8 may be movedpivotally in themanner shown in FigureL 3 to 4disconnect one end thereof from the adjacent side plate 10. When so moved the member 5 is detachable by slipping the same off the support. 12 edgewiseof'the latter in an obvious manner. When an impressionl has been taken in the self-evident manner of use of my invention, the portion of the roll of paper 19 beneath the inking member 5 may be readily pulled youtwards until the entire impression-holding portion of the sheet has passed through the slot 20 of the box 1. Thereafter the sheet may be pulled outwards to tear the same olf for .use and to establish the desired record.l
In renewing the roll. of paper- 19 the inling and paper holding unit will preferably be slightly raised at'the end supporting the cross piece 8. IThe pintle rod 17 is'th'en lifted at one end from the notch 18, carried laterally, and pulled endwise to disengage it from the opening of The side 1u is notchedwhen removed, inv
the arm 11C'. The' roll may then be placed upon the pintlerod and the latter replaced in its operative position.
The plates 10 and the plates 11 with the frame-like extensions 11:a form centering means within the box 1 of the removable unit-'comprising the base 12, the inking member 5 and the roll holder 17 and specific directly connected and 'associated parts. lIt is noted that the receptacle or boX 1 is broadly aholder for said unit and a feature of the invention consists in the arrangement `of the inking device 15 so that it will supply suiiicient ink to the member '5 for operative impressions, as an incident to relative -movement of the parts 15 and 5, the base 12 being always rigid and non-yielding so as to insure clearness of the impression taking-action.
Having thus 'described my invention,

2. In afoot impression taking device, the combination ofv a receptacle and foot impression means disposed therein `and comprising a removable unit embodying a base, an inking member adapted. to travel over said base longitudinally of the holder, and a roll paper holder between one side of the said support and one side of the receptacle, and disposedv longitudinally fof the holder, the opposite side of the receptacle having a slot through whichl paper from said holder may pass. 1 i
3. In a foot impression'takin'g de vi'ce,the combination of a receptacle, and a removable inking and paper-holding unit disposed therein and embodying 4a base, a roll-paper'- holder'mounted on said base, an inking member extending 'over' the base in spaced relation thereto, they paper-roll-holgding member being arranged so that lthe paper ymay pass therefrom between the inln'ng piece whereby it may be moved `to acpo'si- 1'25 the inln'n'g in em-y tion facilitating removal of ber 4from 'the support.
4. In a foot impression 'taking device, the combination [of a holder, an inlring unit'disposed thegein'and comprising a base, van lee endless inking member passing around said base, an inking device on said base operating in contact with the inner surface of the inlring member and adapted to supply said surface with a suiiicient amount of ink for operative purposes as an incident to the movement of the inking member relatively to the base, and means to support said base in a rigid non-yielding 4manner relatively to the holder and spaced from the base so that the base remains stationary during the inking action of said inking device.
5. In a foot impression taking device, the combination of a holder, an inking unit disposed therein and comprising a base, an endless inlring member passing around said base and spaced therefrom, an inlring device on said base operating in Contact with the inner surface of the inking member and adapted to supply said surface with a suiiicient amount of ink for operative purposes as an incident to the movement of the inking member relatively to the base, means to support said. base in a rigid non-yielding manner relativelyto the holder and spaced from the base, so that the base remains stationary during the inking action of said inking device, the inking device consisting of an inking roller beneath the support and between said support and the inking member. 6. A foot impression device comprising a base having supporting means therefor to maintain the base in a rigid, non-yielding position, an endless inking member passing about said base, means for causing movement of said member, an inking device between the inking member and the base and adapted to supply suilicient ink to the ink ing member during its movement to establish operative impressions, the inking membei' operating in spaced relation to the base whereby a sheet of' material may be introduced between the base and the inking member and remain spaced from the latter preliminary to an impression operation.
In testimony whereof l afiix my signature.
