NITED JAMES E. SMITH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SEESAW.
Application filed. July 22, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Litres E. SMrrn, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis. in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful lmprovemcnts in Seesaws of which the follow ing is a specification. I
This il'ivention is a sinnqlitied and improved seesaw and Inerry-go-round. and is so constructed as to permit simultaneous rotary and seesawing motion. On account of the way in which it is built. it can be con structed more cheaply than many others.
In the accompanying; drawings forming part oi. this specification, in which like numbers of references denote like parts where ever they occur,
Figure l is a side elevation;
Figure 2 is a top plan View;
Figure 3 is an end elevation; and
Figure t is a perspectire view of the lower part of the standard. r
The base comprises a plurality of teet 1 a baseplate 2, and a standard 3. The top of standard 3 is reduced and the said. reduced part surrounded by ferrule A pin 5 is socketed in the said reduced part.
Baseplate 2 and cleats 6 are nailed or otherwise secured. to feet 1 there being a hole 7 in baseplate 2 for the passage of standard 3. Pin is socketed. in hole 8 in the pivoted swinging member 9 mounted by means of rod or bolt 10 or other suitable means in arms 11. secured by screws 12 other suitable means to plate or brace Screws 12 pass through parts 14 arranged. at an angle to arms 11.
The brace 13 may either be termed integral with or attached to the beanii 15 which comprises the central body part 16,.and the forked ends 17 contain slots 18 which extend clear to the ends of the beam 15.
and bear handle-bar uprights 20, which car'y the handle-bars 21.
Haring thus described this invention, I hereby reserve the benefit 01? all changes in term, arrangement order, or use of parts, as it is evident that many minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the following claim:
I claim:
A. see saw comprising substantially flat \moden leg members arranged at anglesot' ninety degrees relatively to one another a wooden standard rising from said legs and provided with integral rigid depending pins engaging the angles between sa1dlegs,z't base plate surrounding said standard and secured to the upper faces ol said legs a reduced ex [tension provided at the upper end of said standard. a collar surrounding said reduced extension to prevent spreading of the reduced extension a socket provided in said reduced extension, at depending pin -rota tably mounted in said socket and havingv laterally extending arms, a horizontally disposed pivot pin passing through said arms, spaced angle irons having vertical portions mounted on said pivot pin, a beam mounted on said angle irons and seats and handle bars arranged at the ends of said beam.
in testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
JAMES E. SMITH.
