Description

w.. c. TrcAfv.p Articial Teeth.
Patenie'd oct. 7,1813.
UNITED STATES PATENT CEEIGE.
WILLIAM C. TRACY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPRVEKMENT IN ARTIFIClAL TEETH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,476, dated October 7, 1873; application filed August 30, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM C. TRACY, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings 'and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Artiiicial Teeth, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a detail section of an articial tooth, showing the manner of securing it to the rubber base. Fig. 2 is the same view as Fig. l, but showing a dovetail groove for additional security. Fig. 3 is a section taken through the line x w, Fig. 4, showing a gold plate secured to a tooth. Fig. 4L is a detail view of the same. Figs. 5 and 6 vare sectional and detail views of a block of teeth provided with a platinum plate and pins. Figs. 7 and and S are sectional and detail views of a twotooth block provided with a platinum plate. Fig. 9 is a detail view of ablock of teeth, showing the platinum plate made in sections. Fig. l() is a detail view of a block of teeth, showing the platinum plate made in sections, sep
arated by iianges of the block. Fig. ll isa detail view of a block of teeth, showing its curvature.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention has for its object to furnish artiiicial teeth, single and in blocks, so that they may be more conveniently and firmly secured to the various plates or bases upon which theyare set or mounted. The invention consists in a platiniun lining upon the back of the teeth, with or without pins, as hereinafter described and claimed.
A are porcelain teeth. In the back of each tooth, whether single or in blocks or sets, or pa-rtial sets, are formed an upright and a transverse hole, meeting each other at an angle, and forming an elbow or an angular passage, al, as shown in Figs. 3, 5, and 7. If desired, the upright hole mayV extend a little above the transverse hole, as shown in Figs. l and 2. The passage al is designed for the, rubber or vulcanite to iiow through, and thus securely fasten said tooth or teeth to the base or plate B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The teeth may also have a groove, a2, straight or arched, formed in the upper part of their backs, for the rubber or vulcanite to flow into, as shown in Fig. 2, to more rmly secure the teeth to the base or plate B.
O is a platinum lining or plate, placed upon the backs of the teeth and baked in.
The lining C may be attached to single teeth, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4L; to double or twotooth blocks, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8; or to blocks of more teeth, as shown in Figs. 5, 6, 9, and 10.
When attached to blocks the platinum lining or plate G made be made long, as shown in Fig. 6; or in sections, as shown in Figs. 9 and l0. `In Athe latter case the sections may be separated by anges ofthe porcelain, as shown in Fig. l0.
D are platiniun pins, inserted in the blocks of the teeth, and baked in with the platinum lining or plate O.
The pins D should be made with rings or heads upon their inner ends, to prevent them from drawing out.
By this construction, when the teeth are to be applied singly or in blocks to a rubber or vulcanite base or plate, B, the platinum lining;l O will be covered up and concealed by said plate. When the teeth, singly or in blocks, are to be attached to a gold, silver, platinum, or other metallic base or plate, E, the said base or plate E is soldered directly to the platinum lining or plate C, so that the teeth may be attached with facility to either a vulcanite `or metallic base or plate, as may be desired. The blocks of teeth are molded upon an anatomical curve to adapt them to the shape of the maXillary bones, to avoid the trouble and loss of time in carving and fitting them accurately to the jaws.
thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The platinum lining C, baked upon the back of the teeth, and either with or without the pins D, substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM O. TRACY.
