To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, CHARLES OR'IEGA, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego,in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Boasting Machine, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to a machine for roasting the outer surface of pimientos, chilis and like products to facilitate the removal of the peel and the objects of my invention are First, to provide a machine in which large quantities ofpimientos, chill or the like may be subjected to a heated surface and turned thereon, w .ereby the whole surface of the article to be roasted will-be subjected to a heated. surface so that the peel may be readily removed; Second, to provlde a machine of this class which 18 automatic throughout, Third, to provide a machine ofthis class in which a large quantity of fruits may be passed and properly subjected to heat on their outer surface; Fourth, to provide means for revolving and turning the article to be roasted on its outer surface; Fifth, to provide novel revolving oven for roasting'purposes; Sixth, to provide a novel means of revolving said oven; Seventh, to provide a novel supporting means for the revolving ovens; Eighth, to
I provide a novel means for turning the fruit in said oven, N nth, to provide a novel means for regulating the heat to said ovens and Tenth, to provide a machine of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to operate, ellicient in its action, and which will not readily deteriorate or get, out of. order.
'lVith these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters reference thereon which forms. part of this application in which:

'i'he furnace l, tubular member 2, supporting members, 3, l, 5 and 6, worm wheel Y, worm pinion 8, clutch member 9, clutch member 10, lever -ll, support 12,. chute l3 and conveyor lo constitute the principal parts andportions my roasting machine. 'l'he furnace 1 is shaped as shown best in rigs. 3 and 4;, composed of fire brick and mounted longitudinally therein and positioned on an angle therein is the tube 2 shownfbest in Fig. 3 of the drawings. This tube Qis of sufficient length so that it extends out of the furnace at opposite ends. lit is provided in one end with a spiral member 2 which is adapted to start the articles to be roasted in a circuitous and lnwarcl movement. Extending from this portion 2 is a bar 2 secured to the inner side of the tube which is. for the purpose of increasing the agitation of the mass of articles to be roasted. This tube is support ed at the outle end by means of a supporting member 3 which consists of a bifurcated flange member provided with a plurality of rollers 3 upon which rests the end of the tube 2 mounted on this supporting member 3. IS a cap member 4i secured thereto by ofbolts l and it is also provided with a roller 43 which is adapted to rest against the surface of the tube, thus provid ing roller-means for facilitating the revolution of the tube in the furnace. It will be noted that the member 3 may be a plate portion of the furnace, if desired, as shown lest 1 and 3 of the drawings. The opposite end of the tube 2 issupported by means of a supporting member 5 which is positioned upon a supporting bracket 12 positioned against thebaclr end of the furnare. This supporting member 5 is also a bifurcated flange member and provided with rollers 5 It will be noted, however, that these rollers are flanged rollers and tube 8 mounted on a shaft 8 and also mounted on this shaft are clutch members 9 and 10, the clutch member 9 connecting with the pinion 8 and the clutch member 10 being shifted means of a lever 11, thus providing means for shifting the pinion 8 into and out of gear with the shaft 8 This shaft 8 is supported on journals 8 which are also supported on the supporting bracket 12. This shaft 8 is operated by any driving mechanism. Extending into the end of the tube 2 at theupper intake end is a slanting chute 13 which is the feed chute for feeding the articles to be roasted. Below the opposite end of the tube 2 is'a conveyor 14 for conveying the articles away from the tube after they have been roasted.
It will be noted that the furnace structure is such that there is an exit from the furnace approximately at'the middle of the tube so that only approximately one-half of the tube is heated as there is no fire in the rear portion of the furnace, and that there is only a small space above and around the sides of the tube 2, all as shown best in Figs. 3and 4 ofthe drawings.
Tl'iough Ihave shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts andportions I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but de sire to include in the purview of my invention, the construction, combination and arrai'igement substantially as set forth in the appended claims. It is obvious that with this construction, there is provided a roasting machine particularly adapted for roasting the outer surface of pimientos, chili and the like, to facilitate the removal of the peeling; that the tube 2 is heated properly and revolved in' its heated condition by means of the worm wheel 7 and pinion 8 so that the articles to be roasted are continually turned with the revolution of the tube and further agitated by means of the bar 2* and. fed inwardly and started properly by means'of the spiral member Q at the inlet end; that the flanged rollersin connection with the annular band 2supports the tube 2 against longitudinal movement as well as facilitating its revolution: that the cap members 4 and 6 may be readily removed to facilitate the repairing of the machine to take up wear and to facilitate its being assembled; that there may be as many of these roasting units as desired, placed side by side in a multiple furnace built for the purpose and operated simultaneously or one at the time as desired.
Having thusdescribed my invention what I claim asnew and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent is:
Y 1. A roasting machine, including a re volubly mounted, horizontally inclined. tube, a furnace adapted to normally heat only one end of said tube and slightly heat the other end in which said tube is revolubly mounted with its opposite ends extending therefrom.
2. A roasting machine, including a revolubly mounted, horizontally inclined tube, a furnace adapted to normally heat only one end of said tube and slightly heat the other end in which said tube is revolubly mounted with its opposite ends extending therefrom and means for supporting said tube for revoluble movement at its opposite ends, in eluding annular supporting members, rollers revolubly mounted in said annular supporting members and a band secured around said tube adapted to engage the rollers.

4. A roasting machine, including a revolubly mounted, horizontally inclined tube, a
furnace adapted to normally heat'only one end of said tube and slightly heat the other end in which said tube is revolubly mounted with its opposite ends extending therefrom, means for supporting said tube for revoluble movement at its opposite ends, including annular supporting members, rollers revolubly mounted in said annular suporting members and aband secured around said tube adapted to engage the side edges of said rollers, a spiral member positioned in the one end of said tube extending only a short distance therein, a longitudinal bar. extending from said spiral member into said tube secured to one side thereof,and means for revolving said tube, including a worm wheel secured around one of the extended ends of said tube, pinion meshing with said worm wheel and means for revolving said pinion.
5. A machine of the class described, including a furnace provided with a central vertical flue, a tubular member revolubly mounted longitudinally in said furnace with its opposite ends extending from said furnace so constructed that only one-half of said tube is normally heated while the other half is only slightly heated, a plurality of plain rollers for supporting one of the ex tended ends of said tubular member, a plurality of flanged rollers engaging a band secured to the opposite extended ends of said tubular member for supporting said tubular member against longitudinal movement, a
spiral member positioned in the inner sur face of the intake end of said tubular memher, a longitudinal bar positioned on the inner surface oi said tubular member extending from said spiral member inwardly.
6. A machine of the class described, including a furnace, a tubular member revolubly mounted longitudinally in said furnace with its opposite ends extending from said furnace, a plurality of plain rollers for supporting one of the extended ends of said tubular member, a band secured to the opposite extended end of said tubular member, a plurality of flanged rollers engaging said band for supporting said tubular member against longitudinal movement, a spiral member positioned on the inner surface of 20 the intake end of said tubular member, a
revolving said tubular member comprising a 25 worm Wheel secured on one extended end of said tubular member, a pinion meshing with saidworm Wheel, a clutch member in connection with said Worm pinion and a shaft in-connection with said clutch memher.
