PLATE TERMNAL FUR STORAGE BATTEEXES.
Application tiled June B,
To all 'whom t may concern:
Bc it known thatl, Banca lioiui, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county ci Philadelphia and State Si of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new ,and useful vPlate Terminal for Storage. atteries, of which the following is a specifi cation. y
The principal objects of the present invention are tc shorten the average path for current, to providef the saine conductivity while reducing the quantity of metal employed, and to permit of the arrangement-of the plate lugs in nearly the axis of the post.
The invention comprises the relativere arrangement, combination and construction of parts to he resentl described and finally claimed where y the a ove and other objects hereinafter set forth are accomplished.
Reference will be made to the accompan ing drawings forming part hereof and in Whichi Fi re 1, is a top or plan View of a plate terminal for storagel batteries embodying features of the invention.
Fig. 2, is an elevation of the same, and
Fig. 3, is a side view of Fig. 2.
ln the drawings 1, is a verticall arranged member tapering to provide uni orm crosssection from the horizontal plate 2, tothe vertical post 3@ The plate 2, is horizontal and toit the plate lugs 1-, are connected. The plate 2, is shown iis/toothed and from this it must be understood that in the course of manufacture the plate lugs 4, are inserted between and attached to these teeth in such a may that a unitary character is imparted to the structure. The vertical post 3, attached to the top of the vertical member l, is of circular cross-section and terminates in a cylindrical or conical portion to which the cell 1920. eriel'llo. 387,543.
2, to the post 3, and the centrally arranged te.
post extension 5, tapers downwardly from the post, Fig. 3, so that. the part l, has a double taper.
rThe vertical arrangement of the member 1, in the described .combination with the verte tical post 3, and horizontal plateKQ, is advantageous in thatit gives a shorter aven age path for the current, less metal for the same conductivity, and permits of the plate lugs being, if desirable, carried more nearly e@ to the axls of the vertical post.
l claim:
1. 'A plate terminal for storage batteries consisting of a unitary structure comprising in combination, a plate for attachment to the 05 plate-lugs, a taperinff member arranged at right angles to the plate with its wider end nearest the plate, and a post of, circular cross-section mounted on top of the narrower end of the ymember and aligned `irith/ the Die member, substantially as described.
2.A plate terminal for storage batteries consisting of a unitary structure comprising in combination a plate for attachment to the plate-lugs, a post of circular cross-section, 75 and a member disposed at right angles with the plate and connecting the post and plate and laterally tapering from the plate towards the .post and centrally tapering from the osttowards the plate, substanac tially as ascribedl f BRUCE FORD.
