and which can be conveniently located atvarious points between the carburetor and insure a thorough mixing of the gas. Y
A further object is to provide amixer which can be secured in' place without changing the ordinary construction of the engine parts and may be used either singly or in any desired number to give the desired results.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel. features of construction, and combinations and arran'gements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim. g
In the accompanying drawings-- Figure -1 is a view in side elevation illustrating an engine, a carburetor and an intake manifold showing parts of the manifold in section to illustrate the my improved mixer.
Figure 2 is an enlarged view in longitu- Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the mixer. I
1 represents an internal combustion engine cylinders, and I have illustrated my improved mixer 4 as located between the manifold and the carburetor and between the manifold and the engine, and such an arrangement of a plurality of my improved mixers gives splendid results and insures a ggoper mixin of the gases.
y improve mixer comprises a cylindri locations of cal casing 5 having a base flange 6 at one end perforated as shown at? for the reception of screws or bolts 9 to securely hold the mixer in proper-position. The cylindrical casing 5 is provided at its ends and at suitable points between its ends with screens 8, these screens being preferably spaced an equal distance apart and arranged in'any desired number. The screens are preferably of fine copper wire mesh although they may be made of any suitable material which will cause the gas to be screened, breaking the globules of liquid into small atoms and causing a commingling of the liquid and the air to forma perfect gas.
. By locating a mixer 4 between the carburetor and the manifold 3 and other mixers between the manifold and the engine, a thorough mixing is insured and such an arrangement is a convenient one because the casing5'of the vaporizer can be of such size as to fit snugly within the manifold pipe and be secured against movement by reason of the engagement of the base flange 6 with the ends of the manifold.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
l'claim:
The combination with an internal combustion engine, a carburter and an intake manifold having branches and connecting the carbureter with the engine cylinders, of a mixer in the manifold at the end connected with the carburetor, and amixer in each branch of the manifold at its connection with acylinder, the mixers each consisting of a cylindrical casing having a flange at one end and provided with screens across its ends and between the ends thereof, the casings being arranged in the manifold with the flanges engaging the ends of the manifold.
