To all whom t may concern:
Be it lrnown that I, ARCHIBALD B. Hun ann, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ogontz, county of l'i/lontgomery, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful improvement in Reenforced Joints, of which the following is a full, clear, 'and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates generally to reinforcing with metal an edge formed by the intersection of two surfaces, and more par tic'ularly the edges of a box or container of any shape, and made of material other than metal. The general object of my invention has been to provide strength, rigidity and resistance to wear on exposed edges of paper boxes and to so reinforce themas to prevent them from becoming disengaged or broken apart.
rlhis is accomplished by drawing through the intersecting surfaces, forming an edge, a wire or metal strip of round, flat, oval or triangular section at an angle to the line of joint. A single strand can be used, but I prefer to employ two strands laced in reverse directions and in which each strand is at an angle to the line of the joint, thus making the `reinforcing doubly strong. lVVhen the surfaces are brought to an angle with each other, the strands of wire or metal strips are bent to the same angles and run across the edge, thus strengthening the edge and giving it greater rigidity and resistance to wear. lllhe wires or metal strips intersect the surfaces on both sides of the bend and lie against both sides of these surfaces and across the bend or joint.
The precise nature of my invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, which will now be described, it being premised, however, that changes may be made, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as defined. in the appended claims.

ln the drawings, the reference characters 10, 11 and 12, designate the bottom, ends and sides, respectively, of a box in which all of the corners have been reenforced in accordance with my invention. These corners have been reenforced by a double wire lacing 13 and which may be applied as hereinafter described.
.if itis desired to reinforce all of the corners of a box as shown in Fig. 1, the blank from which the box is made is cut and scored in the usual manner. The joints between the ends and bottom, as well as the sides and bottom, may be reenforced before the blank is folded. rllhis is done by lacing the wire as shown in either Figs. 6, 7 and 8, and Fig. 4; and then bending the sides and ends at right angles to the bottom, as shown in F ig. 5. rlhe corners at the junctions of the ends and sides are then laced and the wire reinforce is then pressed into shape.
ln Figs. 1 to 6, the reinforce 13 is formed of a double lacing of approximately equal angles, while in Fig. 7 it is formed of a single lacing of equal angles.
n Fig. 8, the reinforce is also formed of asingle lacing, but in this form the portion 14 of the lacing or one side of the structure extends approximately normal to the joint, while the portions 15 thereof, on the other side of the structuire extend at an oblique angle to the joint and at an angle to the normal.
The advantages of my invention result from the provision of a joint between two members .having a wire reinforce interlaced through both members and shaped to lie against both sides of both members.
Having now fully described my invention, what l claim and desire to protect by Let ters Patent is .1. A reenforced rigid joint between two members extending at an angle to each other formed of a back and forth metal lacing passing through both members a plurality of times and lying against both sides of both members between the lacing openings throu h both members and across the joint.

3. A box formed of a. folded out blank to form the ends, sides and bottom, the various members being rigidly secured to each other at the unotions to form corners by back and forth laoings passing through the members and extending over the ]o1nt on the inside and outside of the box and conforming toy the shape of the box and forming braces therefor.
