The operation of the door and the lockingdevice is enceedmgly simple. Presuming that the dog 22 is swung rearwardly as shown in a, the door will be first raised manually until the endof the angle 15 may be engaged by the temporary supporting ledge 20 of the book 19. From this temporary supported position the door maybe pried to its final and looked position by inserting the bar 18 within the opening 17 .o'f the plate 16 sothat the inner end of the bar 18 will engage the door. In a door device for railway cars, a door hinged to the car body, a supporting bracket affixed to the door a door-supporting member pivoted upon the body and arranged to be swung from one side of the said supporting bracket into a position cooperating therewith to support the door in closed position, a member affixed tothe car body in such position as to guidably cooperate with theopposite side of the said sinaporting bracket, means associated with the said door supporting member and the supporting bracket for limiting the movement of the former into engaging position, and means associated with the door-supporting member for holding the same in engagement with the doorsupporting bracket.
