,DFCGZUwATIZ Zd INV ENTOR W- BY I I I, (My) 1 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
iiioai DECATUR E. ARNOLD, 0F JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE.
' near: sew.
Application filed. September 26, 1921. Serial ,No .5()3,2e6.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Dnolyrnn E. ARNOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Johnson City, in the county of Washington and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hack Saws, 01" which the following is a, specification.
The principal object of tlllS lllVGlltlOll is to provide means for supporting a motor driven hack saw upon the vise which holds the work piece.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for adjusting the parts so that the saw will engage the desired part of the work piece so as to cut a piece off the same or to make kerts therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the saw parts may be adjusted in relation to the vise.
A further object of the invention is t provide means whereby the work piece can be held at any desired angle in the vise and still be operated upon by the saw.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which zl igin'e l is a plan'view of the invention.
Figure 9, is a side view thereof.
Figure 4- is a section on line -l-4- oi" l igure 1.
The remaining figures are detail views.
In these views 1 indicates the stationary jaw of the vise and B the movable jaw thereof, said jaws being connected together by the screw shaft 3 which is provided with the handle 4, these parts being of the usual or any desired construction. The front jaw is provided with an extension 5 and a base 6 is adjustably clamped to the extension by means of the L-shaped combination bolt and clip 7. This bolt passes through an opening in the base where it receives a nut 8 and the horizontal part of the clip is connected with a depending part of the base by a bolt 10 and nut ll. A thumb screw 12, passing through the clip and engaging the extension, serves as a transverse clamp. Thus the base is adjustably mounted on the extension of the vise. The base is provided in its upper face with a dove-tailgroove 13 which receives a dove-tail projection 14 on a table 15 so that the table is slidable transversely on the base. This table supports the motor 16 and the bearings 17. mounted in the bearings and said shaft'is driven from the motor. shaft through the worm gearing 19. A crank 20 is connected with the outer end of the shaft. A. substantially L-shapedarin 21 is hingedly connected with the shaft by having a bearing 92 at the end of the horizontal lill'll) l'6(5Bfl'\lll);l7llG shaft and held against one of the bearings ()T the shaft by the collar 23. The limb of this arm curves outwardly and has secured thereto the horizontally arranged supporting bar 2% for the saw frame 25 The horizontal limb of the Lshaped arm rests upon the ta ble when in its lowest position. The saw frame 25 is provided with the guides 26 which engage the supporting bar 24 and said frame connected with the crank 20 by means of the link 27. Thus when the crank shaft is revolved the saw frame will be re cijin'ocated upon the supporting bar 24. The
saw 28 is connected at one end to the saw frame by means of the T-shaped clip 29 engaging the forked end of the saw frame and held in position by the bolt 30 and the other end of the saw is connected with the frame by means of the forked clip Ill, engaging the notched end 32 of the frame and held there on by the cam lever 33.
it will thus be seen that the saw parts are mounted upon the vise which holds the work piece A. so that this piece can be out by the saw while held in the vise. This piece can be held horizontally as shown in Figures 1 and 2 or at an angle as shown at 8 in Figure 4. The supportingbase can be adjusted longitudinally upon the vise extension while the table can be adjusted laterally upon the base so that the saw can be properly positioned to make the desired cut in the work piece. Byhaving the l.- shaped arm pivoted to the crank shaft the saw frame and its support can be raised and lowered to engage the work piece.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
A shaft 18 is rotatably' the t able,
provided With an extension, a supporting;
base connected With the extension, a table mounted upon the base, a motor carried by the table, a movably mounted supporting member connected With the table, a hack san frame slidably supported by said mem-- her and means for' reciprocating the iiraino from the motor.
2. In combination with c a holding vise having an extension, :1 base adjuetably supported thereon, a table supported by the base, a motor carried by the table," a supporting member swingingly connected with a hack" saw :trame slidably mounted on the member and means f()l".1.0-
J ciprocatingthe frame fromthe motbr.
3. In combination With holding vise having-an extension, a base:adjustably erraported on the extension, at table slidably mounted on the base in a lateral direction, a motor carriedby the table, a supporting" men'iber swi ngingl-y. attacl'ied to the table,
a v Y a hack saw ilirame slidably supported by said member and means for reciprocating the frame from the motor.
4L. In combination with a holding vise having an extension, a base adjustably 55 mounted on said extension, a table slidable laterally on said. base, a crank shait 1on1- naled on the table, a motor mounted on the table'and geared to said shaft, a supporting member pivotally connected with the shaft, a hack saw frame shdably supported on said member and means for connecting the'l rame with the crank of the shaft. 1 v
' 5. In combination with a holding Vise having an extension, a base adjust-ably supported thereon, a table slidably mounted on the base in a lateral. directioin-a crank shaft journaled on the table,'a motor-carried by the table and geared to the crank shaft, an L-shaped arm llBQi IIIQ, one end pivoted on the shaft with its horizontal arm engaging the table Whenin lowered position, a horizontal supporting bar connected [with the upper end of said arm, asaw frame slidably mounted on said supl'iorting bar and a link connecting said. frame with" the crank oi the shaft.
