. COIN HOLDER.
Application filed March 5, 1921. Serial No. 450,024..
Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny andv State of lennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coin Holders, of which the following is a specification.
li/ly invention relates to devices for holding coins, street-car checks, and analogous circular or disk-shaped articles so that they may be readily removed.
The object of the present invention is to simplify said devices so that the various stamped out of the fewest possible number of pieces of sheet-metal. In the preferred form of my invention l employ only two pieces of sheet-metal for the body and cover, two
sheet-metal cuppedtdisks or plungers for supporting the said articles and two springs for yieldingly supporting the disks and clamping the articles to the holder. Another object is to provide interlocking` means formed preferably integral with the body and cover `to hold the assembled parts in proper relative position. Another object is to provide the cover with suitable means for spacing it from the bottom of the body i and preferably to employ the spacing means to limit the distance the saidy yarticles can be pushed into the holder and to serve as a guide for the article-clamping plunger.
Referring to the accompanying drawing,
" li'ig. lis a perspective view of the coin holder complete; Fig. 2, a top plan view of the same; Fig. 3, a longitudinal vertical section 'on the line lll-lll of Fig. 2;,- Fig. el, a transverse section of l1`ig.l2 on the line TTI-div; Fig. 5, a perspective view of the cover member: and Fig. 6, a horizontal section on the line Vl-VI of Fig. 3.
y On the drawing, 1 designates the body of the holder and 2 the cover thereof, each made of sheet-metal drawn or bent from suitably-shaped blanks. rlhe body has the bottom 2% having intgeral therewith the sides e. and ends 5 arranged at right angles with the bottom 3. The sides l are flat and parallel but the ends 5 are rounded outwardly in semicircular shape corresponding to that of the article to be held by the holder. The sides of the body are spaced aparta distance equal to the diameter of the coins vto be inserted into the holder.
respond vto the curvature of the ends 5. its
each end of the cover is an oval `hole somewhat smaller than the disk-shaped' articles to be held in the holder.
The cover 2 is provided at its opposite edges and between its ends with the two spacers or legs 7 arranged at right angles to the cover and resting on the bottom ylhe spacers are preferably integral with 'the cover and are of such length as -to space the ends of the cover from the ends of the body the required distance to form the slots or openings 8 for the insertion of certain Coins, checks, or the like into the holder and into contact with the lower face of the cover. rlhe sides 4; of the body 1 have inwardly extending tongues. 9 integral therewith and lying against opposite edges of the cover. The ends of the tongues are bent into recesses 10 in the edges of the covei` to hold the cover tand body rigidly together. The length of the recesses corresponds to the width of the tongues to prevent the endwise movement of the cover relatively to the body.
The cover has at each end an oval hole or opening 11 beneath which is a cupped or flanged disk or plunger 'l2 with the cup or flange facing the bottom 3. A. coiled spring 13 between each disk and the bottom 3 serve to hold the disks yieldingly against the cover 2 or against the innermost one of any circular articles resting between the disks and the cover. lhs flanges on the disks are of such depth that the disks can not. be removed laterally through the slots 8 when the disks are in contact with the cover. Each spring 13 is arranged in axial alinement with the centers of its adjacent disk 12 and hole 11 and also with the center of an imaginary circle in whose circumference the adjacent rounded end 5 lies. The disks 12 have preferably the same diameter as the articles to be inserted into the holder, but the holes 11 have a slightly smaller diameter to prevent the escape of the said articles through the same. The spacers or legs 7 have their lateral edges arranged to be engaged by the edges of the lungers 12 and of any coins, checks, and the like having approximately the same diameter as the plungers.
When it is desired to deposit a coin in the holder, the proper plunger is depressed and the coin is inserted through the adjacent slot and between. the cover andthe plunger., The adjacentA spring 13 causes the *coin to be rictionally held against the lower facev of the cover. A second coin may be placed `on the iirstcoinin a similar manner, and
moved one at a time through the adjacent slot 8 by inserting the thumb or finger through the proper hole ll and pushing' the coin out in anvobvious manner.
l claim: l I i l. In a holder for disk-shaped articles, an elongated casing comprising a body member and a cover member, there being a slot in each end oif one memberl to admit said articles one at a timeinto the casing, in combination with legs bent down from the center et the sides of the cover member and resting on the bottom ot the body member, and means on the body member Yfor securing both members vtogether, the opposingv edgesy oi the legs being` spaced less than the diameter of the said `articles and disposed at such distances .from the ends of the casing as to be engaged by the periphery oi the articles when they have been 'inserted through the said slots into the casing a predetermined distance.
2. in a holderfor dish-shaped articles, a casing comprising an elongated dished body e member and a rover member, the sides oit the body member being spaced apart a distance equal to the diameter ot said articles and there being a slot in each end of thecasing to admit articles into the' casing parallel.y
with the cover member, and there being `an opening-at each end et the cover of less width than the diameter of an article, a pair oli' legs integral with the edges of the cover and resting on the bottom of the body inember, the edges of the legs being engaged by the 'articles and serving as stops therefor when they'have been pushed through the slots a predetermined distance.
3. In a holder for disk-shaped articles, a casing comprising an elongated dished body member and a rover member, the sides of the body member, being spaced apart a distance equal to the diameter et said articles and through the 'said'slot f there being av slotv in each'e'nd oi thee-leasing to'admit articles into the casing parallel with the cover member, and there beingl an open-` ing at each end of the cover of lesswidth than the diameter of an article,a` pair of legs integral with the edges of the coverand resting on the bottom ot the body member, the edges ot the legs being engaged by the articles and seiving as stops therefor when they have been pushed through the slots a predetermined distance, in combination with a spring-pressed plunger' beneath each open ing in the vcover and arranged to clamp an article in registry with the acent slot, the said edges of the legs serving as guides for the plungers. f
4;. In a holder for disk-shaped articles, an elongated casing comprising a, body member and a cover member, therebeing asloty in one end of the'casing through whichfsaid articles may be passedA into the casing parallel with the cover member', a spring-pressed plunger at the slotted end of the casing and arranged to clamp an article in registry with the'slot, and a pair 'of opposed spacers between the cover and body members, the spacers being integral with the opposite edge ot the cover and having their edgesutree Vand arranged as a stop and guide for the plunger and also for said articles on the plunger.
