Be ib known that I, ORR-IS H. WARREN, 0f Baldwinsville, in the'county 0f Onondaga and Statue of New Yrk, have invented a new and Improved Oiler, 0f whieh the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a vertieal eentral seetion of my improved- 011er f0r elevated parts of machinery.
The object 0f my invention is to eonstruet a convenien oilin g device for the purpose of supplying shafting, bearings, and other parts of maehinery, which are elevated t0 be 0ut of mach, With the necessary oil, Wih0i1t the usle of steps 01' ladder. The oiler is simple and effeetive, and allows an easie1 and quieker oiling than the ineonvenient methods hitherto in use. My invention consists ma-inly of a tubular rod, 01:" suitable length, in which is an oil-receivin g chamber, and 130 whieh is seeured a hollow handle, in whieh the air-chamber is arranged. Frorn the oil and ai1= ehambers the oil is forced out through the diseharge-pipe at ehe end of 10d by means of a pump arrangement operaced by the thumb. Projecting lugs 01 ears ab the end 0f discharge-pipe raise the. covers 0f boxes or cups over bearings.
In the drawing, Arepresents the tubular rod, 0f suitable dimensions and material, whieh is gradually tapering ofi t0the upper eurved end 0f the diseharge-pipe B, which extends 06H- trally through the full length of r0d A. Tl1e handle O is attaehed to the lower end of rod A, being also hollow, and 0f the same material as the rod. In the l0wer and Wider part of 120d A is arranged the oil-reeeiving ehamber D, which is filled by means of an orifice, a, closed by scrnw-cap a, and which communt cates, by venu-holes 12 in top partition b and b ab end o f rod, with the outer air. A stopcock 01' faueet,d, passes through the oil-re ceiving chamber D inco discharge-pipe B, and serves for the purpose of letting the oil back from the upper part of the discharge-pipe into theoil-ehamber D. The airehamber O, forn1ed within the handle G, connects by a tube, e, with the oil-ehahnber D, whieh tube extends to the bottom of air-chamber, opening there by means of a va1ve, e. 'lhe discharge-pipe B passes also down 130 the bottom 0f the airchamber C, and is provided there with a valve, f, which.
is formed by widening the diseharge-pipe B into a chamber, g, having a narrower end tube, f whieh guides a smaller tube, f sliding therein. The tube f closes tubef, by means 0f its eonieally-projeeting ca-p g ab the top, and has an orifiee, g near its lower endl. When the valve f is brougl1t int0 action the tuloef rises till orifiee g is above the guide-tube f when the oil will pass inco the wider ehamber g, and thence up into diseharge-pipe B. A projeeting lag, h, of chamber g arrests the upward motion 0f inner tubef, prevenoing thereby its disconneetion from taube f and seeuring tl1e regular flow 0f oil. The upper end of the discharge pipe B is bent first into the shape 0f a large U, and again, a1; the extreme end, inthe shape of a small inverted U, as shown in the drawing. The objeet of the curved end part is 130 prevent the dripping 0f the oil ab the end 01 the diseharge-pipe, the 011 being drawn back by tl1e closing of valve f. The ears l, near curved end of pipe B, serve t0 raise the covers of boxes 0r eups fqr oilin g tl1e bearings, shafts, &c. A13 the upper part 0f handle!) is applied the air-bulb E, 0f rubber 0r other suitable material, which is conneeted through air-chamber C, by a small tube, v1, with a small air-chamber, F, attaehed t0 handle G opposite bulb E. A seeond tube, i, opens from chamber F into air-chamber G. The design 0f the air-ehamber F and tubes z and i is t0 prevent the oil from rising and fiowin g into the bulb E, protecbing it tl1us from the action 0f tl1e oil, and keepin g the force-pump action 0f the bulb unimpaired. In whatever position the oiler may be held the air-chamber F will prevent tl1e entering of oil into the bulb.
By holding the handle O and pressing With he thumb 011 the bu]b E the oil is first drawn by tl1e expansion of the bulb through tube e into the air-chamber C. The repeated pressure on the bulb eloses va1ve e, 1ifts valve f, and forces the oil up through the disehargepipeto the machinery, while the reeeding of valve f, 01 the expansion of the bulb, draws the oil back from the end of the dischargepipe without dripping.
By means of this simple force-pump aetion of the oiler elevated parts of machinery may be easil'y oiled, without the least waste and loss of ohne.
Ha-ving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire 130 secure by Letters Patentl. The oiler for elevated parts of m achinery,
consisting of tubular rod. A with oil-receiving chamber D, handle O with air-chamber O, bulb E, and. air-receptacle F, in combination with discharge-pipe B, all arranged and operated substantially as and for the purposes described. y
2. 'lhe oil-receiving chamber D in combination With air-chamber O, taube e, valve e and. bulb E, 130 draw oil down from the oil-chamber into the chamber O by the expansion of the bulb, as set forth.
3. The combina-tion of valve f of discharge-- I pipe B with air-chamber G and bu1b E, 110 force oil through discharge-pipe 120 elevated machinery, as described.
4. The combination 0f bulb E, by tube z i, with air-chamber G and F, 1:0 prevent access of oil to bulb, as specified.
5. The discharge-pipe B, having double U- shaped end with ears l, for the purpose sei; forth.
6. The valve f, consisting 0f outer guidetube f g, inner tube f g with orifice g am]. stop h for securing regularity of aetion, as described.
