BLOGK-UNITING MEANS.
Application filed August 30, 1920. Serial No. 407,023.
To'aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY W. F ALCDNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the countyof Wood, and State of Ohio, near Perrysburg, Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Block-Uniting Means; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the. art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to means for attaching blocks together, and has for its ob ject the provision of a simple and eflicient means of this character intended more par ticularly for use in securing together license or serial number blocks of automobiles in a manner to render it extremely diflicult' to sever the connection between the blocks and change the numbers or arrangement thereof without detection.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, two preferred embodiments thereof are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figures 1 and 3 are side views of sets of number blocks secured together by different forms of the invention and with parts broken away. Figs. 2 and 4c are end views respectively, thereof, and Fig. 5 is a different side elevation of a portion of the blocks shown in Fig. 3 with a part in section.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates individual blocks preferably of glass, p0rcelain or other ceramic material and bearing a designation mark thereon such as a numeral, letter, or the like, so that a number or word or series of numbers or words may be built up by placing a plurality of such blocks bearing desired designations side by side.
The purpose of the invention is to secure a plurality of such blocks together in assembled form in a rigid and secure manner, and this is accomplished by providing holes 2 through the blocks in longitudinal register one with another. so that a binding material may be poured therethrough, such material being of a nature to adapt it when hardened to form a rigid connecting or uniting means opening '2, the wall of the opening is provided with pockets thereby forming locking. knobs or enlargements on the bar 3. In Fig. 1 the depressions 4: are formed in each block at the ends of the holes 2 so that a part of each pocket or depression 4- is formed by adjoining blocks.
In Figs/3, 4t and 5 the blocks are desig nated 5 and the enlargements on the hinding-bar 6 extending therethrough are in the form of dove tails 7 formed in a side of each block, such dove tails filling recesses 8 of corresponding shape provided preferably throughout the width of the block transversely of the block opening 9 and in intersecting relation thereto as illustrated.
It is evident that my invention provides a simple and eilicient means for securing a plurality of blocks together in a rigid and durable manner, and that it renders a sep aration of the blocks and a changing or transposition of the same without detection extremely diiiicult.
I wish. it understood that my invent-ion is not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what .I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
. 1. In combination, a plurality of blocks placed side by side in abutting relation and having registering openings therethrough with an ipening of each block provided with a transversely extending enlargement at an end thereof with the side walls of the enlargement recessed, and a binding material filling the openings and enlargements of the blocks to rigidly unite the same, the binding material being entirely enclosed by the blocks except at its ends.
2. In combination, a plurality of porcelain blocks placed side by side in abutting said openings and recesses being filled with relation and each having a recess in an abuta binding material to rigidly unite the ting side wall thereof, which recess has the, blocks in abuttng relation. 10 greatest width remote from the side of the In testimony whereof, I have hereunto 5 block in which it is formed, said blocks also signed my name to this specification.
having openings therethrough which regis- I ter with each other and with the recesses, HARRY WiFALCONER.
