.citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in. the county-of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Pistol-Holding Devices, of
which the vfollowing is a specification.
This invention is designed to form'a 'convenientmounting for apistol and isof partlcular advantage in automobiles. In carrying out the invention in connection with an tomobiles a pocket'isgprovided,in the instrument board with a spring-actuated cover which when released projects the pistolinto easy position to be grasped. Outside of the convenience of this location of the pistol the movement to the instrument board is not so apt to be resented as to any other part of the machine.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows:-

an opening in the cover plate and a an inwardly extending case for housing the'pistol, the case having the projecting ears 4P which are secured to the cover plateby screws 1*. A cover 5' is hinged on the cover plate at 6. It is provided with a latch strap 7 through which a latch 8 extends when moved to locking position. The "latch 8 is carried bya pin 9 which extends through a slot 10 and a finger button 11 is arranged outside of the cover plate 2. It will readily be seen that if the cover plate is closed and the latch moved downwardly into the strap 7 the cover will be locked in a closed position until the latch is moved upwardly out of the strap.

It also'has an upturned ear 21 which-extends through the slit l3fwith a cross pin 22 which ,is slidingly-niounted ginithe cases. It has slidingly secures the clipto the topwall of the case. A pistol 23 is shown in position in the clip 18. Normally this is pressed back against the cover 5 by means of a spring 24 which is coiled around the rod 15 and is compressed between the ears 1 1 at the front I i of the case and the upturned ear 19 on the pistol clip.
It will readily be seen that when the latch releases the cover the spring acting on the pistol clip will move the pistol out through theopening 3 as the cover swings down into convenient position to be grasped by the operator. The clip 18 should grasp the pistol sufficiently to prevent its removal when it is stopped against the end of the cover plate. A buffer spring 25 is preferably provided so as to save the shock.
In the alternative construction the latch for the cover 26 is secured to the cover plate by a strap 27. A pull button 28 is carried by a pin 29 and the pin 29 is connected by a link 30 with thelatch 26. It will readily be seen that as the pin 29 is withdrawn the link 30-forces the latch upwardly, thus releasing the cover. In the structure the pis tol clip 18 is of slightly different shape than the pistol clip in the preferred construction adapting it for a slightly different form oi pistol 23.

meansacting on the mounting to move a pistol through the opening as the cover is opened.
2. The combination of a supporting wall I having an opening therethrough; a cover forthe openlng; apistol mounting; and
spring-actuated means acting on the mounting to move a pistol through the opening as the cover is opened.
3. The combination oi a Supporting Wall having an opening therethrough; a cover exerting pressure on the mounting which pressure is exerted against the cover; and a catch preferably over the dash for normally retaining the cover in a closed position.

The combination of a supporting Wall having an opening therethrough; a cover for the opening; a pistol mounting; a guide on which the pistol mounting is slidingly mounted; a spring acting on the mounting intending to move a pistol in the mounting outwardly through the opening; and a latch for the opening.
5. The combination of a supporting wall having an opening therethrough; a cover for the opening; a pistol clip; a case extending inwardly from the opening; a guide rod on Which the clip is slidingly mounted; and a spring acting against the clip:

The combination of a supporting all having an opening therethrough; a cover for the opening; a case extending inwardly from the opening, said case having a slot through its top; a pistol clip; a guide rod I a above the slot; means extending from the for the opening; a pistol mounting; a spring clip through the slot; and a spring on the rod acting against the clip.
7. The combination of a supporting Wall; a housing for a pistol; a cover for the hous ing; and means for automatically moving the pistol to gripping position asthe cover is opened;
