To all whom it may concern:
citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Portsmouth, county of Scioto, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in End Closures for Range Boilers and like Containers, of which the following is a specifica- This invention relates broadly to sheetmetal containers or tanks which are subjected to internal pressure strains, and more particularly to an end closure for such containers.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a structurally improved form of end closure for pressure tanks, boilers, and the like, as, for instance, the usual types of domestic range boilers.
A further object is to provide an end structure designed particularly as a bottom for range boilers and similar containers, which possesses the requisite strength and durability, which requires a minimum of material in its formation, which provides for ready drainage without the collection of sediment, which admits of the easy application and removal of sputs as occasion may require, and which consumes a minimum quantity of spelter 'or other coating material. I

While the closure is herein shown and described as a bottom for containers, it is obvious that it may be employed also as a top end closure.

An end closure for range boilers and like containers, consisting of a sheet-meta] plate of concave-convex form disposed with its concave face inward and havlng an outwardly extending peripheral fiarfge adapted to-fit within and to be rigidly attached to the boiler body, said plate having therein a centrally located sput-receiving opening and having formed about said opening a horizontal circular ledge adapted for having the head of a sput,seat thereon, said ledge being depressed below the plane of the concave face a distance approximating the thickness of the head ofthe sput, said plate having I formed therein aplurality of radial rein- A forcing ribs which terminate at their inner ends at points located outward with respect to the depression whereby said ledge is formed. i 2. An end closure for range boilers and like containers, consisting of a sheet-metal plate of conca-vo-convex form disposed with its concave face inward and having an outwardly extending peripheral. flange adapted to fit within and to be rigidlyattached to the .boiler body, said plate having therein a central opening and having formed about said opening a horizontal circular ledge, a sput mounted in said opening with its head seated upon said ledge, said ledge being depressed to a plane located below-the adjacent portion of the concave face and being joined to the latter by a sharply inclined shoulder having a height approximating the thickness of said sput-head, said shoulder and the peripher of said sput-head being separated by a c annel which is of such narrow width that it is adapted to be closed by the material employed in coating the boiler, and said plate having formed therein a plurality of radial reinforcing ribs which have 1 their inner ends terminated adjacent to said shoulder. 3. An end closure for range boilersjand --like containers, consisting of a sheet-metal plate of concavo-convex'form disposed with its concave face inward and having an outwardly extending peripheral flange adapted to fit within and to be rigidly attached to the boiler body, said plate having therein a centrally located sput-receiving opening and having formed about said'o'penlnga'horh so zontal ledge outwardly-depressed to occupy a lower .level and adapted for having the head of a sput seat thereon.

An end closure for range boilers and the like, consisting of a sheet-metal plate of. concavo-convex form adapted for mounting within an end of a boiler body, with its concave face inward, said plate having therein a centrally located sput-receiving opening and having formed about said opening a depressed horizontal ledge adapted for having the head of a sput seat thereon, said ledge being located below the plane of the concave face a distance approximating the thickness of the head of the sput so that the face of said head lies approximately in said plane.

An end closure for range boilers, consisting of a sheet-metal plate of concavoconvexform adapted for mounting within the end of a boiler body with its concave face inward, said plate havingtherein a centrally located sput-receiving opening and having formed about said opening a horizontal ledge adapted for having the head of a sput seat thereon, said ledge being depressed below the plane of the concave face a distance approximating the thickness of the head of the sput so that the face of said head lies approximately in said plane, said ledge being closely encircled by a sharply inclined shoulder, anda filling for the space intermediate said head and said shoulder.

A bottom for range boilers comprisin a sheet-metal plate adapted to be mounte within the lower end of a boiler body, the body of said plate being provided with a central opening and being dished downward toward said opening to form a regularly in- 'clined drainage surface, the portion of said body adjacent to said opening being depressed downward to form a horizontal opening-encircling ledge, and a sput disposed in said opening with its head seated upon said ledge, the head of said sput'having its top surface substantially flush with the lower end portion of said drainage surface.
8. A bottom for range boilers comprising a sheet-metal plate adapted for mounting closely within the lower end of a boiler body,
