To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NUNEZ CLARENCE Fnnius, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, borough of 6 Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Treating Music Sheets, of which the follow ing is a specification.
The invention relates to apparatus for treating music sheets, and the object of the invention is to provided simple, easily operated, power-driven mechanism for rotating a plurality of spools and guiding the sheets thereto, whereby a number of sheets may be spooled simultaneously by a single operator.
A further object is to provide means for loosening and removing any punchings or other particles or shreds adhering to the sheets. during the spooling operation, and for printing the expression lines on such sheets during such operation.
Another important object is to provide means whereby the operator iuay turn any of. the spools in advance in initiating the winding operation, independently of the other spools.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement by which the above and other objects'are attained, to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The accompanying drawings form a part or this specification and show the invention as it has been carried out in practice.

frame at the midlength of the apparatus. By depressing the outer end of the foot lever the rods J and their connections will be raised, and on releasing the foot lever, will be lowered by gravity.
In order to hold the rods J 2 in the elevated position during the introduction of the sheets, a swinging arm K is hinged to the table frame, carrying on its under face a beveled nose K adapted to engage a pin J on the vertical arm J of the bell-crank. A rod K pivoted at the upper end to the arm K extends downwardly to a foot lever K by which the arm K can be raised.
To lower the series of wheels L and L the outer end of the foot lever K is depressed. correspondingly raising the arm K and withdrawing the nose K from engagement with the pin J Thus released, the rods J 2 and their equipment sink by gravity until supported by the wheels L and L upon the sheets. The attendant then grasps the bar L and moves it in the yokes J to cause the central wheel L to follow the expression line on the master sheet as the latter traverses across the table, and in doing so causes the printing wheels L to describe simlar parallel paths on the other sheets and mark corresponding expression lines there on.
The bar L and its connections are then raised by depressing the foot lever J. The pin J on the lever arm J automatically lifts the arm K, rides under the beveled nose K and is engaged by the latter and thus held in the elevated position until again lowered.
At the completion of the winding operation the revolution of the shaft F may be stopped in any desired or well-known way, for instance, by means of a brake of which R is the operating lever after first throwing off the belt from the pulley F S S are idle sprocket-wheels mounted on the board A and engaging the sprocket chains F to induce the desired tension in the latter by taking up any slack.
The rack C is shown as hinged to the frame at c and supported by cords or wires C so as to be folded to the frame when not in use.
The marking wheels L and the central wheel L are mounted in arms L all of the same length and distance from the pintles L so that all swing under the same conditions. All the wheels rest on sheets traveling at the same rate of speed and the effect of moving the bar L in either direction is to swing all the arms L in unison and with the central wheel L and to the same extent, and hence all the sheets are marked to correspond to the master sheet and to each other.
Modifications may be made in the forms and proportions of the apparatus without departing from the principle of the invention, and parts may be used without the whole. The apparatus may be constructed to treat a greater or less number of sheets than here shown.
I claim:
1. In an apparatus of the character set forth, a table, means for supporting a plurality of music sheets in position for presentation thereto in the same horizontal plane, spooling mechanism for such sheets, means for guiding such sheets separately and independently ofeach other across said table from said supporting means to said spooling mechanism, a series of marking wheels above said table, and means for moving said printing wheels simultaneously into and out of contact with such sheets in the traverse of the latter.
2. In an apparatus of the character set forth, a table, means for supporting a plurality of music sheets in position for presentation thereto in the same horizontal plane, spooling mechanism for such sheets, means for guiding such sheets separately and independently of each other across said table from said supporting means to said spooling mechanism, a series of marking wheels above said table, means for moving said marking wheels simultaneously into and out of contact with such sheets in the traverse of the latter, and means embodying said last-named means for moving said printing wheels transversely of such sheets.
3. In an apparatus of the character set forth, a table, means for supporting a plurality of music sheets in position for presentation thereto, spooling mechanism for such sheets, means for guiding such sheets across said table from said supporting means to said spooling mechanism, a bar movable transversely of such sheets, a series of marking wheels mounted on said bar above the sheets, and means for raising and lowering said bar.
4. In an apparatus of the character set forth, a table, rods extending vertically through said table, yokes on the upper ends of said rods, a bar carried by said yokes and movable longitudinally therein, a series of marking wheels mounted on said bar above the sheets, and means for raising and lowering said bar.
5. In an apparatus of the character set forth, a table, rods extending vertically through said table, yokes on the upper ends of said rods, a bar carried by said yokes and movable longitudinally therein, a series of marking wheels mounted on said bar above the sheets, means for raising said rods and for locking them in the elevated position, and means for unlocking said rods and permitting the latter and said bar and marking wheels to descend by gravity.
6.
