,This invention relates to new and useful improvements in churns and hasfor its prima y object. to pr v a a rangem t of dashers for" quickly churningmilk and forc-v ing the butter globules toward the top of the churn;.the various parts of the device being of simple constructionand easily cessible and removable for cleaning where? by the churn may be, maintained in a highly sanitary condition.

Another object of the inventionis to, provide means whereby-the dashers are yield ably maintained in operative-I position whereby they, may move vertically. when Another object of the inventionis topre vide a churn including receptacle anddashlers and means. for supporting .and j 011M13 ing the same within. the receptacle.
, Other obje'ctsfand advantages of the invention will become apparent duringthe course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application and wherein like numerals are employed to! designate .like parts throughout the several views i Figure 1 is a front view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan of the invention, and v Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the device for supporting and journaling the dashers within the receptacle.
Referring to the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration isv shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a supporting frame which consists of a base 6 having corner standards 7 rising therefrom, two or which provide the front legs, while the rear leg 9 is provided by an upright engaging the rear edge of thebase and adapted to rise a substantial distance thereabove. The sides and back of the supporting frame are provided with horizontal brace bars 10, the front of the supporting frame being left open in order that the receptacle 11 in which the milk A p er of siaah through secret ng ea ear-51. .19. attest -F may e read lr emb ed and inserlfdr h frame.- v

for intermesh with the beveled gears 19, and
the upper extremity of each shaft'is reduced and round tobe journaled in openings in the bars 14. The lower ends of the dashers are also reduced in a similar manner to be inserted in openings 23 in a plate 24: which if is positioned above the bottom of a glass receptacle 11. This spacing is accomplished by providing the edges of the bottom of the receptacle with a rounded ofi formation so that opposite edges 25 of the plate 24 en-- gage this rounded portion and therefor is supported slightly above the bottom of the glass receptacle.
In order to quickly separate the fatty globules from the milk as it is being churned and force these globules to the upper portion of the receptacle, I provide each dasher shaft with a pair or series of outwardly extending blades 26, the blades of each series being disposed vertically on the shaft and the two series being disposed in relative staggered relation. As clearly shown in a as Figure 2 of the drawings, these blades are inclined and as seen in Figure 1 are dis posed upon opposite sides of thedasher shaft. During operationof the churn, one series of blades on one dasher are adapted to cooperate with a similarly located series; of blades on the coactmg dasher,
on the two dashers bGIIIg'lIlChDGCl oppositely the blades to one another whereby the fatty constituents in the milk are squeezed between the blades and forced upwardly of the receptacle. Further, as more clearly seen in Figure 1 the vertical edges of one series of plates on one dasher isadapted to cooperate whereby the spring may be tensioned'when the'above named frame is inoperative position and the ring 29 associatedwith a stud or nail 80 secured in the base 6. I
From the foregoing description it will be readily apparent that when it is desired to gain access to thereceptacle, the driving mechanismframe '12'may be swung on its hingesto a vertical position after detaching the spring 27 from the base 6. This action will of course disengage the beveled gears 19 from those carried by the dashers,
and of coursethe top 21 of the receptacle may be readily removed so that the dashersmay be readily accessible. After the dashers have been-removed the plate 24 may also be removed and the receptacle and all parts may "be-thoroughly cleansed to maintain the same in ahighly sanitary condition.
The foregoing description and the drawing has reference to the preferred or approved embodiment of the invention. It is to be understood, however, that certain changes in construction and arrangement of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., may be made as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A churn comprising a supporting frame having sides to prevent lateral displacement of a receptacle placed-within the frame, said frame having a side normally open through which the receptacle may be removed, a hinged cover for the frame for supporting a' driving mechanism adapted to drive an agitating means placed in the receptacle, and a resilient member connected to said cover andadapted to be stretched across said open side of the frame to prevent. accidental displacement of the receptacle through the open side of the frame and to retain the driving means in engagement with the agitating means.
