:nrrnn STATES PATENT QFFICE.
HENRY FACES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TABLE-CASTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,965, dated September 16, 1873; application filed Au gust 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY FAOHS, of the Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in providing a caster-stand with hinged retaining-jaws for supporting dishes. The invention further consists in providing a castenstand with hinged hoods or covers, for the purpose of covering and protecting the article or articles placed in dishes which are supported upon the casterstand, as will hereinafter appear.
In the drawing, the letter A designates the base or stand of my caster, which, in this example, is made tocontain three dishes of oval shape; but the same can be made for an unlimited number of dishes or receptacles, and of any desirable form or pattern. The stand A is provided with segmental concave sides B, having a shoulder, a, on the edge thereof; and at or near-the termination of such concavity are placed jaws or clamps C 0, being opposite each other on the sides of thecaster-stand,
and such jaws are connected therewith by a hinge-joint, b. The jaws (J 0 rest on the shoulder to of the concavity B, (see Fig. 2,) and they are kept in position by their inherent gravity. Such jaws serve to retain a number of dishes, D,'in the concavities of the caster-stand A,
the edge or flange of such dishes being placed on the shoulder a, and in the mouth of two opposite jaws, as shown in the drawing. The letter E designates covers or hoods, composed of a fine gauze or other suitable material, which are placed on the dishes D, being of a corresponding shape thereto; and such covers are affixed to the caster-stand A, in the concave sides thereof, by means of a loose joint, 0 0, so that said covers can be swung back, and access can be had to the contents of the dishes. From the stand A rises a standard, F, provided with an ornamental tophandle, by means of which my caster can be carried about in the same manner as an ordinary table-caster.
If desired, retaining-springs may be applied to the jaws O O, and to the covers E, to assist in keeping the same in position.
By these means a caster is obtained which can be used for serving up meats and vegetables, and other articles of cookery, and which can also be made to answer the purpose of an ordinary table-caster.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The caster-stand A, provided with hinged retaining-jaws O O, for supporting dishes, arranged and operating substantially as described.
2. The covers E, hinged upon the casterframe, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
This specification signed by me this 1st day of August, 1873.
