State or Oregon, have invented a new and useful Doll, of which the following is a specication. i

The device forming the subject mattei.' of this invention is a doll, and the invention aims to provide a doll, the `garments of which may be removed readily for cleanu mg.

Another object of the invention is to pro* vide a head of novel and improved form. A further object or the invention is to provide novel means 'for fasliioning the hair. ears and the like.

It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.

TWith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details oi: construction hereinafter described and claimed7 it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing Yfrom the spirit ot the invention.

ln the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevation, one form of doll constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a rear elevation; Figure 3 is a longitudinal section on the line or Figure 1; Figure 4; is a ilront elevation of the doll, certain ot the garments being removed.; .Figure 5 is a rear elevation ot the doll when the doll is in the condition shown in Figure l; Figure 6 is a front elevation of the doll, the drawers, gloves and cap having been added; and Figure 7 is a cross section taken approximately on the line 7-7 of Figure 5.

The doll Yforming the subject matter of this invention includes a body 1 having legs 2 and arms 8. Stockings 1l are mounted ou the legs 2- A mass oi yarn, indicated at 5, is threaded into the lower ends ot the stockings and into the legs 2 to form the heel of the foot, the leg being surrounded by a circumscribing band or yarn G or the like, to form the ankle. An up* standing loop 7 oi yarn or the like is stitched into the stocking and in the leg vclosed together and stitched at its upper 2 to simulate a buckle, the lower ends of the loop 7 being connected tothe band 6.

An underskirt 8 may bemo'unted on thel body 1, the upper 'end of the skirt 'preferably being stitched at9 tothe body@ The skirt 8 is caught r together or stitched, as shown at 10 inthe crotch, to pair of drawers.

The body, the legs and the arms ot the doll may include a casing 15 of' cloth or the like, containing a stuiling 16 of' any desired sort, such as cotton. rlhe casing 15 is end as indicated at 17 in Figure 3.

rThe head oi the doll comprises a cover 1S and a rubber ball. 19 within the cover, the cover being made or any suitable cloth and being contracted and stitched to the body as shown at 21 to form the neck. The upper end oi the cover 1S of the head may be contracted and stitched together as shown at in "Figure 5.

A guimpe 22 extends across the chest and has flaps 23 extended downwardly on the back as shown in Figure 5. The lowerv edge of the guimpe is stitched at 24 to the body, the inner edges of the iiaps 23 of the guimpe being stitched as indicated at 25 to the body. rllhe guimpe may be einlnoidered, as shown at 2G, to imitate a neck chain.

The miniera] 27 denotes a 'flexible element, preferably in the form of a braid, the intermediate portion oi the flexible element being secured at 2S to the cover 18 oi the head, the ends oi the flexible element depending, as shown in Figure 2 to represent braided hair. The front portion of the cover 18 of' the head may be slit to form a rib or strip 29 secured at both ends and extending from the front to the rear. A mass of yarn or like flexible material is run u nderneath the rib 29 and is extended downwardly along the sides ot the head, the ends of the muss of yarn being embroidered as at 31 into the cover 18 to imitate the ears. lt is to be. observed that the rib 29 not only serves to hold the yarn 3() in place, but serves, also, to define the part in the hair, reipnesen'ted by the yarn 30. The features may be embroidered or marked otherwise simulate *a on the cover 18 of the head. The head may be surmounted by a cap 33 held in place by a throat latch 3d in the form of knotted cords or the like.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is:

l. In a doll7 a head comprising a covering having a strip secured at the ends thereof and extending' from the front towards the back, fiexible material extended beneath the strip to simulate hair, the strip also deiining a part in the hair.

2. In a doll, a head comprising a covering having a strip secured at the ends thereof and extending` from the front towards the back, and flexible material extended beneath the strip to simulate hair, the strip also deining a part in the hair, the ends ot the exible material being connected to the head covering at the sides of the head to form representations of ears.

3. A doll comprising a head including a covering` having a strip secured at its ends thereto and extending from the front toward the back and flexible material extended beneath the strip to simulate hair, the strip defining a part in the hair, and the ends ot' the flexible material being Worked into the covering to form enlargements representing ears.

4. In a device of the class described, a doll including a head comprising a covering having a slit therein; and a llexible element secured intermediate its ends to the covering by passage through said slit and depending trom its point of connection With the covering, to define braids ot hair.
