BOATSWAINS SEAT.
APPLICATION FILED oc. 2. 1920.

Patented Sept. 5, `1922.
IBOATSWAIN S SEAT.
Application filed October 2, 1920. Serial No. 414,194. n
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PASQUALE GIANNONE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Boatswains Seat, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a suspension seat for boatswains or repairmen and itsprincipal object resides in the provision of a suspension seat. or device which will comfortably support a person from the top of a structure to enable him to perform certain labors. n
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a suspension seat of this type which will permit the person to havey free movement of his arms while suspended from the top of a mast, pole or other structure.
1t is another object of the invention to provide a device of this 'character which embodies a suspension harness equippedwith a seat which will permit the operator to stand erect therein or to sit upon the seat while working.
With "the preceding` and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts and operations to be hereinafter enlarged upon, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device s showingpa person supported therein;
Figure 2 is a view taken at right angles to Figure 1, the dotted lines indicating the posiy tion of the persons body while seated;
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective of one of the stirrups and its supporting straps therefor embodied in the invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing wherein like characters of reference designate like parts throughout the Several views, the numeral 5 designates a pair of straps arranged in crossed relation intermediate their ends and secured together at a point designated at 6. The straps 5 are provided with buckles 7 to permit the straps to be lengthened or shortened. These straps 5 are connected adjacent the point 6 with a metal circular band 8. Depending from the extremitiesof each strap 5 is 'a stirrupv 9 in which the operator is permitted to stand when desired.
A waist encircling band 10 is attached to the straps 5 and is provided with a hinged joint .11 at therear and a latch 12 at the front. Depending from the band 16 is a strap 13 carrying a seat. '14. A backrest 15 is attached to the band 10 rearwardly thereof. Thigh encircling straps 16 are attached to the straps 5 below the band 10 while ankle straps 17 are attached to the straps 5 slightly rabove the stirrupsf9. A'loop or eye 19 is carried by the straps 5 at the point of intersection of the same and is adapted to be engaged by a suspension hook 20` of a suit-V able hoist extending to the top of the structure to be reached (not shown). r
From the disclosure it will be manifest that they operator will be safely strapped in the device and yet have free body movement.
It will also be seen that when the operator does not desire to stand as illustrated in Fig-A ures land 2, he may assume a seated `position. p
t is to be understoodthat the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the saine,
. and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangementof parts maybe resorted to without departing from the spirit of the' invention or the scope of` `the subsjoined claims. A
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure andv the United rotect by Letters Patent of tates, is:
1. A suspension device for workmen comprising a pair of supportingstraps, stirrups sok carried thereby, means for suspending the supporting straps, a hinged band carried by i the straps and adapted to pass aroundthe waist of the workman, and a seat depending from the band. V f n t r 2. A device of the character described including a pair of straps arra'ngedin crossed relation intermediate their ends and connected together at such'fpoint, a stirrup carried by the extremities of each strap, a hinged band carried by thestraps adapted to pass `around the operators body at the waist,`a
2 1,428 see latch carried by the Free ends of the band, a. seat suspended from the band, and Ineens foi' suspending the supporting straps.
3. A Weilinans seat comprising a pair of supporting straps adapted to extend longitudinally at the front and rear ofthe WoickN man and having their intermediate parts a1'- ranged in crossed relation and connected together, a band fixed to the straps adj acent their point of intersection, a hinged hand 10 attached to the straps to pass around the Waist of the Workman, thigh and ankle encircling straps carried by the supporting straps, a seat suspended from the hinged band, and ineens for suspending the supporting straps l5 at their point of intersection.
