IMPROVEMENT IN FLOATS FOR LIFE-RAFTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.. 142,801, dated Septembf r 16, 1873; application filed February 21, 187,2.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J oEN MASON, of Detroit, Wayne county and State of Michigan, and GEORGE W. ROGERS, of Brooklyn, Kings county and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Life-Rafts, of Which the following is a specification:
This invention is a float for a liferat't, which consists of a sack, having eyeleted ilaps, which is tted with blocks or pieces of cork strung together, the uniting-cord being secured at each end to the sack, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a plan view of a raft having floats applied thereto; Fig. 2, a side elevation ot' the same; Fig. 3 an end elevation; Fig. 4, a plan view of a iloat detached 5 and Fig. 5, a cross-section of the same.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will now proceed to describe fully its construction.
A represents a canvas sack of suitable size, provided with the eyeleted flaps B B, by means of Which it is adapted to be conveniently attached to other iloats and to other parts ofthe raft, as shown in Figs. l and 2. E, Fig. 5, represent pieces or blocksoi cork, strung together by means of strong twine, the ends oi which Y are rmly secured to the sack. A suitable number of the floats are properly attached to each other and to the framework of the raft, as shown.
By means of the described construction a cheap loat is obtained, which is perfectly reliable for use.
In case the sack is torn the cork is still held by means of the twine. Small pieces may be used for the purpose, if' desired'.

What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A float for a life-raft consisting of the sack A, provided with eyelet-tlaps B B, filled with blocks of cork strung together, the cord being secured to the sack, as and for the purposes set forth.
