JESSE C. OWENS, 013 LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
MUFFLER TOILET TANK.
Application filed May 16,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn Cl GwnNs, a
citizen of the United States, and resident of Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and use iul Improvements in a MuflierToilet Tank,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in closet tanks and pertains especially to the construction for delivery of waterthereto. The objects of this invention are first, to provide a tank structure whereby the delivery of .water thereto for filling the same is noiseless; second, to provide a structure of the character described which is self contained and has a minimum of independent fittings; and third, to provide a structure with. anovel refill and overflow conduit.
These objects together with other objects and corresponding accomplishments are ob tamed by means of the embodlment of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the tank; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section with parts shown in elevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawing. A indicates the tank. B indicates the flush valve controlling the discharge to the bowl. The supply cock is indicated gener ally by C and controls the flow of water to the tank. My novel filling basin which may be formed integral with the tank is indicated by D.
Referring more in detail to the tank A, it is preferably formed integral with a supply passage 3 extending vertically through one of the side walls. A nipple 4 is mounted in the tank and in communication with conduit 3. thereby providing for connection to the house service pipe. The upper end. of the passage 3 opens through the wall communicating with a valve chamber formed in a block 5. This block is fastened to the wall by any convenient means and has formed therein a valve seat for a valve disk 6. The valve disk is provided with a stem 7 slidably extending through an opening in the block. Chamber 8 is formed in the block and communicating therewith is a passage 9. The passage 9 connects with a passage 10 extending along the side wall and along the rear wall. Joining the passage 10 and leading downwardly are passages 11 and 12 communicating with the filling basin D.
The basin D is circular in horizontal sec- Speeiflcation of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 15 1922 1921. Serial No. 469,756.
tion and slightly undercut. At the center thereof is a threaded opening to receive a nipple 13 for connection to the pipe leading to the bowl and forming a valve seat. The
passages 11 and 12 are connected to the basin by ducts 14 and 15, which direct the water into the basin tangentially so that it will have a whirling motion. I floated over the discharge opening in the basin is a float valve 16 having a stem 17 guided in a bracket 18. The opening in the bracket 18 through which the stem extends flares outwardly toward the top to provide for the float valve properly aligning itself in seating. The top of the stem is provided with a button, and a link 19 engages the button. The link 19 is connected to a handle tank lever 20, whereby rocking oithe same will lift the float valve 16.
The stem 7 is connected by a sliding joint 21 toa float valve lever 22 pivotally mounted upon a bracket 23.
Assume that the tank is full of water,
Extending parallel to the passage 12 is a refill and overflow passage 24. The upper end of the refill and overflow passage is connected by a port 25 to passage 12, this port constituting a refill port. At the upper water level a port 26 connects the passage 24 I not seat tightly or water flows through the valve for any reason after the tank has been filled, it will escape through port 26, passages 24 and E2? to the bowl, thereby preventing overflowing of the tank.
The novelties in my invention reside in the disposal of the passages in the wall of the tank, and the filling basin, which results in the tank being filled noiselessly.
that I claim is:
1.. A llush tank for toilet-s comprising a reservoir having formed in the wall thereof a supply water passage, a valve chamber comn'ninicatiug with said supply water passage, a water distributing passage -tormed in the wall ct said reservoir and leading from said chamber, a circular filling basin formed in the bottom oi" said reservoir, said. distributing passage communicating with said basin and directing water thereinto in a tangential direction, a discharge port at the center ot said basin, a float flush valve for said discharge port, linkage to lift said flush valve, an intake valve for said valve cham her, and float actuated means for operating said. intake valve, said reservoir having an overflow and refill passage formed therein and opening below said flush valve with a port connected to said distributing passage and said overflow and refill passage at the high water level.
A [lush tank -tor toilets comprising a reservoir having formed in the walls thereof av supply water passage, a valve chamber communicating with said passage, a distrib uting water passage formed in the wall of said reservoir and leading from said chamber so as to discharge water into said reser voir, a. discharge port at the bottom of said reservoir, aflush valve for said discharge port, means to lift said. flush valve, an intake valve for said valve chamber, and float actuated means for operating said intake valve, said reservoir having an overflow and refill passage formed therein, an opening below said flush valve, a port connected to the distributing passage and to said overflow and refill passage at the high water level.
3. A flush tank for toilets comprising a reservoir having a circular filling basin Formed in the bottom thereof, a conduit for supply water leading to said basin and directing water thereinto in a tangential direction, a float actuated valve controlling the How of water to said basin, a discharge port at the center of said basin, a float flush valve for said discharge port, and means to lift said flush valve. 1-. A flush tank :tor toilets comprising a reservoir having formed in the bottom there of a circular filling basin, a conduit leading to said basin for directing supply water thereinto in a tangential direct-ion, an intake valve actuated by a float controlling the flow of water through said conduit, a discharge port for said tank, and a flush valve for said discharge port.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 6th day of May, 1921.
