LUTHER S. WRIGHT, OF GROTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAST-BLOCK FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,603, dated September 9, 1873; application filed July 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUTHER S. WRIGHT, of Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Lasts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form. part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvementsin lasts; and the invention consists in securing the block or instep-piece by means of a pivoted. clasp device, so that the block may be attached to the last or removed therefrom with the greatest facility and be secured in position without the use of nails, or screws, or other device, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of a last, showing my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with a portion cut away to show the pivoted clasp de-.
vice.
Arepresents a last; 13, the block or insteppiece; and O, the clasping device. The block 13 has on its forward end a stud or projecting pin, which fits ina corresponding hole in the last, and the rear end of block B is out with a longitudinal groove, extending a short distance from the rear end, and a lateral groove or notch, 1), extending across the rear end of block 13. The clasp (J is a piece of metal, the lower end of which is pivoted to the last A by a pivot-bolt, a, so as to move back and forth in the longitudinal groove formed in block B, and in a similar groove formed in the last A. The clasp O is also provided with lateral projections or cross-pieces D, and its upper portion is shaped into a handle, convenient for operation. y
The operation of my improved device is as follows: When it is desired to attach the block or instep-piece B, it is simply placed in the required position, and the pivoted clasp O pushed forward until the crosspiece D rests in the notch 12, by which operation block B is firmly secured in position. When it is desired to remove the block, all that is necessary is to push back the clasp O.
Whatv I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The pivoted clasp O, or its equivalent, for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the pivoted clasp G, last A, and block B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have'hereunto set my hand and seal.
