masses,
Specification of Letters Patent.
7 Patented Aug.
Application filed October 31, 1919, Serial No. 334,814.
ing at Barcelona, Vergara Street 5, in the county of Barcelona and State of Catalufia, Spain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Clasps; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The object or the present invention is to 7 provide an improved dental clasp to secure Y partial dental plate in place and retain teeth, dentures, partial dental plates, and orthodontic and other dental appliances in place, without injury to the natural teeth by abraiding their enamel and inviting decay, the invention consisting essentially of a clamp comprising a metallic wire provided with a substantially spherical enlargement at the end to directly engage the neck of the tooth and prevent any other portion of the wire from coming in contact therewith, as hereinafter described and claimed. 7
In the accompanying drawings-- Fig. l is an elevation of wires constructed in accordance with my invention. i v
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a partial dental plate provided with clamp wires constructed and arranged in accordance with my in vcntion. I F 3 is a similar view, showing 3 the and with the clamp wires engaged with two of the natural teeth to hold the plate. in place.
' My improved clamp wire a may be made of any suitable metal such as aluminum, gold, silver, platinum or the like, or of any dental clamp place.
suitable alloy. In accordance with my invention I provide the clamp wire with an enlargement b at one end, to engage the neck of a natural tooth, the other end of the clamp wire being, as is usual, embedded in or otherwise secured to the plate or denture. The clamp wiresare arranged near the ends of the plate and bent as shown in Figs. 2
and 3, and toward each other and are ofsuch length as to extend around the necks 01' natural teeth andto cause the enlargements Z) to engage between the necks of two of such teeth, such enlargements thereby preventing the other portions of the clamp wires from touching the teeth, and hence preventing the clamp wires from abraiding the enamel of the teeth and inviting decay.
By the engagement of the enlargements 6 between clamps are put under tension and act as springs which tend to pull rearwardly on the retaining natural teeth and'thereby firmly hold the plate in place.
Having thus claim a A dental plate having clamp wires arranged near its ends and each provided at the outer end with an enlargement, said clamp wires being bent toward each other and being of such length and so arranged as to cause said enlargements to engage between the necks of natural teeth, prevent other portions of said wires from contact with said teeth, and cause said clamp wires to pull rearwardly on the retaining teeth and thereby hold said plate in In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
