exterior of the neck of .a bottle and has .for its object to provide .a novel :bottle stopper which is constructed so that it can be applied --equally well to bottles of diiierent sizes .and shapes and which is provided with novel means for =clamping the stopper to the neck of the bottle.
In order to give an understanding of my invention, I have illustrated in the drawings a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described, after which the novel features will be pointedout in the appended claims.

My improved bottle stopper comprises a seat member to rest against the end of the bottle neck and provided with spring fingers to engage the bead at said neck, and a clamping member to encircle the fingers and adapted by its turning movement to clamp the fingers firmly against and under the bead.

The clamping [member is indicated at 8 and is .an annular member which surrounds the fingers 4. This clamping *memberis in .the form of a cap and the central portion thereof is bent inward-1y, as shown at9, and is provided with an aperture 10 through which the stem 7 projects, the outer end of the stem preferably being enlarged, as shown at 11, so as to prevent the two parts of the bottle stopper from becoming separated. The clamping member is thus free to slide up and down on the stem. Said clamping member is capable of turning relative to the seat member and has -formed in its side a plurality of cam portions 12 which are adapted to engage the fingers 4 and clamp them firmly against and underneath the bead 2 as the clamping member is turned.
When the bottle cap is to be applied to a bottle the clamping member will be turned into the position shown in Fig. 7 so that the fingers are situated between the cam thereby bringing the cam portions 12 against the. fingers and clamping the fingers firmly against and beneath the bead 2, as shown in,
Figs. 2 and 6. The cam-membersareshaped a to engage the fingers opposite the bead-engaging portions 5 thereof so that the action of the cam comes on the portion of the fingers situated beneath the head 2. The bottlestopper Will thus be firmly clamped to the bottle, and this same action will take place even though the size of the bottle and the shape of the bead vary somewhat because 7 the resiliency ofthe fingers 4 Will permit them to be applied to bottles of different sizes, and-the'cams are of sufficient'extent so -that they will act to clamp the fingers tightly to bottles Whichv'ary in size somenecks it may be desirable to first push. the

Therefore, although I have used the term bottle stopper in the claims and specification, I do not Wish to be limited to the use of the invention as a bottle stopper. q x Y I claim: I I i 1'.
