COMMODITY CONTAINER.
Application filed May 31,
or containers.
More particularly the invention relates to holders for numerous commodities such as coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper and spices, and so forth.
Some of the objects of the present invention are: to produce a yholder for numerous commodities which'embodies means for discharging lany part of either of the commodities at will; to produce a simple and inexpensive holder of thekeharacter mentioned which may be of convenient use to housewives or chefs, and useful in restaurants.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the particular construction and the relative arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the holder with the cover thereof removed.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3--3, Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken' on the line 4-4, Figure 2.
Figure 5 is an elevation of a part of the body member of the holder.
Figures 6 and 7 are detail views.
Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing for the details, it will be apparent that, the holder of the present invention will include `a holderproper 10 which is rotatably mounted on a base having the necessary axis for the holderproper 10. The holder-proper 10 includes a hollow, preferably cylindrical, body-member 11. The body-member 11 is divided into a plurality of series of commodity receiving receptacles, there beinly an inner, preferably annular series 12 and an outer annular se- .ries 13. The receptacles are formed by the employment of plates 14 and 15; attaching members 16, 17 and 18; and a post 19. The plates 14 extend radially from the post 19 and are held in place by the attaching members 16 and 17. The members 16 and 17 Specification of Letters Patent.
rammed. aug. i, ieee. 1921. serial No. 473,886.
cross-sectionally are U-shape to provide spaced plates to which the ends of the plates 14 are attached; The members 16 are attached to the post 19 in any suitable manner. and the members 17 are attached to the wall 20 of the body-member 11 likewise. The plates 15 are arranged endwise between the plates 14 and are held in place by the attaching members 18. Each of the plates 14 has a plurality of slots 21 therein. Each of the attaching members 18 consists of a pair of plates 22 each of which is cut or formed to define portions 23 which are insertable in particular slots 21, and which portions engage the plates 14 to which they are connected. The lower end of the body-member 11 is closed by a bottom-member 24 which has a plurality of series of openings therein so arranged as to provide a discharge opening' for each of the receptacles 12 and 13. Each of the openings 25 of the receptacles 12 has arranged with relation thereto, for movement, to obstructing and unobstructing positions, a member 26, which lis pivotally secured as at 27 to the bottom-member 24. Each of the members 26 has an enlarged portion 28, which, according to the disposition of the said members is movable relatively with respect to its particular opening 25. Each member 26 is also formed with a manipulating handle 29 which extends through and beyond the wall of the bodymember 11. Each of the openings 30 of the receptacles 13 has arranged with relation thereto, for movement, to obstructing and unobstructing positions, a member 31, which is pivotally secured as at 32 to the underside of the bottom-member 24. Each member 31 comprises an enlarged part 33 and amanipulating handle 34. According to the arrangement of the members 31 the enlarged part 33 of each member, is movable with respect to its related opening 30. An annular member 35 is attached to the body-member 11 and the said member 35 has a series of slots 36 and a series of slots 37 therein. The handles 29 of the members 26 extend through thev slots 36 and the handles 34 of the members 31 extend through the slots 37. The end walls of the said slots limit the members 26 and 31 in their movements. The post 19 is hollow and is attached to the bottom-member 24. A spindle 38 is received by the hollow post 19. The lower end of the spindle isscrew threaded as at 39 for threading engagement with a screw threaded bore 4() in the base'4l.` The upper end v`of the spindle 38 has a screw threaded bore 42 therein to. receive a headedscrew 43. The 'head 'of the' screw 43lies against the top of the post 19 and thus holds the parts together.V The vbodyemember l1 is closed'at the topby a cover 44 which has a suitablehandle or handles.v 1 Y v p 4 From the4 foregoing it Will be vobvious that the holder of thejpresent invention will em body afmultiplicity of receptacles in which vthere lmay be placed different commodities;
that the discharge` of a particular comv modity'is accomplished by the -`mai'iipulation of aparticular controlmember; that the particularl control member may'be'brought into convenient reach by rotating the bodymember on its axsjthat the holder is of practical construction'in that italloivs parts tob'e readily vdetachedto be cleaned thus making 'for a sanitary holder of, this character.` l
What is claimed isz,
l. A commodity holder includinga rotat able body-member embodying an inner se-y ries of receptacles and an outer series of f receptacles, an upper series of pivoted memv bers and a lower series ot pivote'd members,
la .discharge opening atthe bottom of each of said receptacles, the` upper. series Aof pivoted .members beingarranged Vvto leave .the
v"openingsof the outenser'ies of receptacles obstructed or unobstructed upon movement ofthe said members, the lower series of pivoted members being` arranged to leave the openings of the inner series of receptacles obstructed or unobstructed upon movement of the said members. o
2. A commodity container comprising arotatable y body-member embodying rattaching members, plates held detachabl'y, in
place diametricallyby said attaching-mem` bers, the said plates 'having slots therein, a
set of attaching plateseach having attach ing` portions which are inserta-ble in the slots in said first plates, plates concentrically an.
ranged and detachably held in place ;by said attaching` plates, the said diametrically arranged vplates and the concentricallyfarranged plates With the vsaid body-member forming a vplurality of receptacles, each fof said receptacles'having` an opening iny the bottom thereof, a plurality yof pivotally mounted members selectively operable to leave a particular opening voli/a particula1- receptacle obstructed or unobstructed, andA means y'for limiting the movements. of "each of said members.
