- An article holder comprising in combination a base plate, a turntable pivotally mounted on said base plate, jaw elements on said turn table, an operating handle structure pivoted to said base plate and engaging said turn table for oscillation of said turntable, said handle having a slot therein, clamping means in said base plate for adjustment to engage said handle through the slot therein to maintain said handle in adjusted position on said base plate for maintaining said jaws in a fixed position.

T 0 all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, DoN C. VVISENBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peru, in the county of Miami and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Article Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in article holding devices.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an article hOldiIlg device specifically adapted for holding fruit jars, and the like, to maintain the article being held in fixed position, for placing or removing a cover thereon or therefrom, or to perform any other work upon the article being held.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an article holding device of the above described character, which may be clamped to a supporting element, such as a table, and including novel operating means for moving jaws in increasing or decreasing circumferential alignment, to engage or disengage an article. d
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiinent of my invention, the letter A designates a supporting base plate, having the turn table B rotatably mounted thereon. An operating lever handle C is oscillatively mounted upon the supporting base plate and engaging the turn table for oscillation to expand or contract certain jaw elements D,

Thejaw elements D are provided for action through the slots in thebase plate A and turn table B. They are arranged in circumferential alignment upon the turn table B; each comprising an upstanding channel shaped supporting portion'20, preferably arcuate in cross section, and provided with a resilient insert 21, preferably of rubber, fiber or the like. Each of the jaws D are moreover provided with the turn table engaging portion 22, provided to straddle a slot 17'upon the turn table B, said'portion 22 being provided with a suitable aperture 23 for insertion of a rivet or pivoting element 24; the pivoting element 24 of each of the jaws D normally projecting downwardly through a pair of intersecting slots 14 and 17 in the base plate A and turn table B respectively. The pivot element 24 is provided with a head 25 adapted to overplate A and to straddle the slot 14 therein.

The operating means C, preferably comprises a single handle 80, pivotally mounted adjacent an end thereof, throughan aperture in the extreme end of the shank'pon tion 11, and by a'rivet 31 orthe like. 1. An article holder, comprising, in A combination a supporting .baseplate, a turn table oscillatively mounted'on said plate, jaw
elements on said, turn table and plate, and means on saidsupporting plate for engaging and oscillatingthe turn. table relative to said supporting plate, for moving said jaw elements relative to each other.
2. An article holder, comprising incombination a supporting base plate, a turn table oscillatively mounted on saidpl ate, jaw elementson said turn table and plate, and
means pivotallymounted" on said supporting plate engaging, the turntable for moven ient' to oscillate the turn supporting, platefor movingsaid jaw elementsrelative .to each other.

4. An article holder, comprising in combination a base plate, a second plate oscillatively pivoted thereto, jaw elements engaging in said first and second mentioned plates, and manually operable rack means pivoted to said base plate engaging said second plate for oscillation thereof for adjusting the relative positions of said jaws.
5. An article holder, comprising in combination a base plate, a turn table pivoted thereon, a handle pivoted to said base plate, intermeshing means on said turn table and pivoted handle, and jaw elements on said turn table for relative movement by operation of said pivoted handle.
6. An article holder, comprising in com bination a base plate, a turn table pivoted thereon having teeth segmentally upon a portion thereof, a pivoted handle on said base plate having segmental teeth adapted for intermeshing with said teeth of the turntable, said turntable and base plate having cooperating intersecting slots, and a plurality of jaw elements engaging the slots in saidbase plate and turn table, said jaw elements adapted for advancing or retraction by operation of said handle means.

An article holder comprising a base plate including a shank and a disc, said disc having slots therein, a second plate of substantially the same size as the disc on said base plate and having slots therein, jaw elements including portions for attachment in the slots of said base and second mentioned plates, and means pivotally mounted on the shank portion of said base plate and engaging said second mentioned plate to oscillate the same for relative movement of said jaw elements.
8. An article holder comprising in combination a base plate, a turntable pivotally mounted on said base plate, jaw elements on said turn table, an operating handle structure pivoted to said base plate and engaging said turn table for oscillation of said turntable, said handle having a slot therein, clamping means in said base plate for adjustment to engage said handle through the slot therein to maintain said handle in adjusted position on said base plate for maintaining said jaws in a fixed position.
